On the street interviews of real Americans who aren't smart enough to warrant the use of oxygen, but yet are willing to share their opinions on such important things as who should we invade next. This is a perfect example of what is wrong with this country.

CNN The communist news network. I wouldnt believe anything I hear on CNN. Nothing like Bushhaters who just want America to crumble into a socialist hole like the welfare blue states.

CPTAmerica, I'll write in this column so you can easily follow along. You are being misguided and mislead. Shrub is not a good President. He is careless and insensitive. You have fallen into a hole of right-winged crap that leads uninformed people off the path. Don't fall for their crap. Just look at the facts and I can't imagine how you don't see the clear picture. Shrub was a big mistake.

Scuba- Umm, yeah..I do know how to read, and I do know where Australia is too. Does the source really matter when considering the subject matter? The Daily Show may be a comedy show, but they still cover important matters of government, just in a light hearted manner.

or do you really think all those people were in on some sort of gag to fool me? Cause if so, kudos to them.
But I'm betting that they are just stupid....and voted for Bush. Cause stupid is as stupid does.

The problem with this country is that half the people are under average intelligence and we still let them vote.

I bet the only one in the video who knew it was a gag was the interviewer. I'm with reapwood on this one. Make 'em pass an IQ test before they can vote!

Oh yeah, my favorite definition of democracy is "rule by the lowest common denominator". If you don't get that joke, it's probably because YOU are part of the problem.

Jimbo did you not understand reapwood correctly...? By definition half of all people are below average intelligence... because average is the halfway point! gaaaah... the internet is more stupid than America, in general...
Also, "the lowest common denominator" is a pathetic metaphor that should NEVER. BE. USED. AGAIN.

Flamingspinach,I will use that metaphor whenever I want. And I understood reapwood perfectly. The problem with democracy is that the rich and powerful can use their enormous influence, especially through propaganda disseminated through the expensive national media, to influence and manipulate the weakest minds among us. Those weaker minds respond to cliches, sound bites, and appeals to patriotism, even though they fail to grasp the repercussions that will follow whom or what they are voting for. Thus, those of us with more intelligence are continually subject to the voting power of those with below average intelligence. I have been watching this since the times of Kennedy and Nixon, and I am not mistaken. The lowest common denominator(a term borrowed from mathematics, of course) refers to the most gross levels of response, easily solicited from the general public, which sways public policy. That is how we got into the slaughter and mess we have created in Iraq. Did you watch the video? Those brainless twits are voting, and they don't know the difference between Australia and Iran. My comment about an IQ test was a joke, but it certainly expresses my frustration with millions of intellectually impaired Americans wielding the power of the vote.

That hilarious. The people in this country are ripe for following a "Hitler". That's not hilarious.

I don't advocate a government run by the poor. I advocate a democracy where education is a first priority, and that is not America. Education is given lip service here, but a highly educated public would be an extreme threat to those in power, and I believe that is exactly what Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc. had in mind.

Jimbo, the reason I object to the phrase "lowest common denominator" being used the way you used it is: the lowest common denominator of two fractions does not have anything literally in common with what you mean when you say "lowest common denominator" referring to society. There are no two fractions, you are not trying to add them together or whatever, and I assume you are just using the term because it has the word "lowest" in it and you are referring to either a) simply the lowest echelon of society, or b) that this lowest "sets the bar". I'd prefer if you'd just say that instead of using a tired and meaningless math metaphor.
As for the IQ test comment, now that you stated your belief in rule by the most educated, it makes a bit more sense. Still, I disagree with you on that point - there is no objective way to judge wisdom, so this is pretty much the best we've got - unless you consider an Illuminati-type setup, but meh...
