We are the lowest paid and the least respected by the public and our companies. You ask us for names you can't even pronounce let alone spell. You expect us to find YOUR doctors, find you family members, you parole officers, you kids schools, corner stores, gas stations, and most of the time you don't even KNOW THE NAMES of who you are calling. Then if YOU are lucky enough for one of us figure it out (mind read,pick your brain), one would think you'd be GREATFUL enough and at least say "thank you". And we are called rude. Brother.. and let us see you try sitting for 8 hours with only 1 15 min break in the am, a 1/2 lunch and 1 15 min break in the pm. Handle 1000 calls a day and be required to handle them in 7 to 15 seconds or FASTER. We don't have time to listen to your long stories. Does your job, count everytime you step out to use the facilities plus time you on how long you took and possibly be asked "what took you so long?" Get it together PEOPLE! Have a heart. Know what you want before you ask, have a pencil and be ready to write and KNOW HOW TO SPELL IT if it's a STRANGE name. If it's spelled more than one way, WE WILL BE ASKING for a spelling as we are REQUIRED by management to ASK YOU!!! If you don't like the automation, tell the company not us, for there is NOTHING we can do about it. It is hear to stay so deal with it and GET OVER IT.

Bopper (2/17): There is no excuse to be rude to people providing a service. Thats BS, and too bad, but on the same hand, we all have to deal with those type of people. But, if you don't like your job, go find a new job, perhaps somewhere where they don't time your bathroom breaks. (report)

jobseeker (12/10): no wonder you have to ask us how to spell the names of the places we are trying to locate i see from your posting that you can't spell. for instince greatful is spelled grateful and you grammar is terrible too. I am currently looking for a job and i can't get one and you have one and you have terrible grammar and spelling abilities. where has our customer service gone. this is just unbelievable. be grateful you have a job there are a lot of us out here who are still looking. so you get over it you knew what your job requirements were when you took the job. you deal with it! I mean YES There are NICE people that help u spell something but then YOU GET THE ONES THAT call and get mad because you cant find what they want so they get ALL MAD AND SAY your dumb i want your supervisor well IF I CANT FIND WHAT THE HELL MAKES YOU THINK THEY CAN.. whatsupyou (6/13): The 411 operators need to learn how to use Google. I can find something that no one knows how to spell in .5 seconds and some operators can't or don't even take a stab at it? I can find just about anything if I try. One operator told me there was only one Japanese type restaurant in a certain city and I pulled up 12 on google in .5 seconds with the phone numbers right there beside the listings. duh. (report)
Anonymous (6/30): Wow! First of all I am a 411 operator and I love my job. One thing any CSR should know is to JUST RELAX, it's okay. If you have used all of your resources and you still can't find it, then guess what it's either NOT LISTED or it's incorrect information. Think about it if someone is stupid and lazy enough to spend $1.99 to find a business/person, they are stupid enough to not even know the correct information. I mean come on you call and ask for a Wal-Mart and you spell it for me. Do you think you're the only person that calls for a Wal-Mart. Of course not I would say 25 calls a day are for Wal-Mart. But when you call and ask for YOUR Doctor's # and his last name has 13 letters and you can not even give me the first three? You are the ignorant person. It used bother me, but just because you cursed me because I couldn't find your listing, I don't get mad. I can still sleep at night and I sure didn't miss my doctors appointment because I didn't know his name or the street he was on. How about you ignorant people that call for the welfare office or a temporary/staffing service, you are too lazy to WORK or FIND A JOB but yet you some how have the money to pay for 411? Get over yourself I am a college student working to pay for my education. I come from a wealthy family and they are making me earn everything. You snobby people make me sick because most of you live in a country club and your in debt up to your eye balls and you're too selfish to admit it. Well I guess that's all I have to say, for all of you 411 employees keep your head up and don't let the ignorant people ruin your day. They are in deed paying for your service and if you can't find the listing, oh well life goes on. P.S. mznunaya (9/6): DEFINITION OF JOB: A regular activity performed in exchange for payment, especially as one's trade, occupation, or profession. ...Do you say "thank you" to the gardner that cuts your grass? How about the people that exterminate the house when it gets termites? ...I could go on and on but the point is still this: YOUR DOING 'YOUR' JOB! You want praise for doing your job really? (lol) Don't get me wrong I once had a job working for target and I understand where your coming from. But I didn't bitch about it because I knew I was getting paid for it. Anonymous (10/9): I am a supervisor for 411 operator for wireless so yes I know exactly what your saying. We get good customers too. One thing I will say is we dont get any respect I know we work a customer service job but that doesnt mean you have the right to talk to us any type of way how would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot. Oh and one thing you left out IF WE SAY WE DONT HAVE A LISTING 8 TIMES OUT OF 10 WE DONT. THINK ABOUT IT WHY WOULD WE HAVE THE # AND JUST HOLD YOU ON THE PHONE WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE. I DO WONT TO THANK THE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE NOT RUDE TO OPERATORS YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED TRUST ME. Anonymous (8/4): I call 411 a lot b/c of the nature of the business I'm in. I ALWAYS know the person's last name or the business I'm looking for. I did learn some new things from your post (number fo calls each person handles, the amount of time they have per call). If you don't know the name of the person or the business you're looking for, I don't know why they call information. You're job doesn't sound too fun to me but I can't believe you are the lowest paid! I have NEVER been rude to the operator and ALWAYS said thank you at the end of the call. If you're job seems monotonous, then maybe you should consider changing jobs. (report)

SAOperator (9/1): Im a 411 operator too. At the end of the day I realize I live in a society full of helpless idiots and my faith in human beings is crushed by the utter stupidity I hear 8 hours a day. The pay is not bad and the benefits are great, but its still not enough to take the abuse that people think they are allowed to dish out to the operator. (report)

zarina1 (11/22): I call 411 periodically and have wondered about why the call gets ended so fast. Now I understand that you have 7-15 seconds to get the caller off the phone, maybe that is why you never hear someone saying thank you. I am sure not everyone does, just like not everyone says hello and how are you (and when you do most people don't answer). But i say thank you every time and before i'm done I hear the automated system giving me the number. Hope you have better days :) (report)

Anonymous (3/13): This is why a job application say, qualifications! an individual must qualify and have a high tole rance for the public. It is unprofessional to call a business and the phone rings off the hook, so therefore management such as I, must monitor time away from the phone and time consumed on each call. If we allowed employees to hit the hold button, take there time away from the desk, and never be monitored or recorded, the whole company would go to hell! It is unfair to those employees who do qualify.. and also, can handle the public and be smart enough to utilize their strategic abilities to assist someone. do not ever apply for a 911 operator or emergency road service operator, because honey, people dont know where they are located when they are stranded or if they really heard gunshots, or if the person laying on the ground is actually asleep or dead! all we know is someone needs help! it is our job to provide it. Having patience with that caller may have got them to the doctor just in time, or just simply made their day a little better! you are not being paid to hear the words thank you, you are being paid and evaluated for performance in assisting the public. those that do say thank you should make up for the ones who do not say it. if you have not quit yet, or have not been fired, your time is coming soon, I deal with people like you all day, and we are waiting for the opportunity to fill your position with an employee that qualifies to assist the public and is smart enough to know if you are working from your heart there is no room for judgement and complaints. I speak for every manager out there who took a risk for their company just to give you a chance. Trust me when I say, they are listening and waiting for that certain "tone" in your voice and thats all it will take! One more thing, everybody do not share your ungratefulness, you just wish they did! (report)

Operator (7/25): I agree with this person 150%. Get another job comment by someone else is just an example of the mentality out there. I have worked in various areas of the phone company. Repair- people cursed you out because their phone couldn't get fixed quick enough, like you had control over it. Every call just about 85% were mad. I've also been in customer service, and other areas but the unique thing about 411 is that not all but unfortunately a good 80% here feel you're stupid. They don't know how educated you really are and that you're in 411 because the company has been downsizing for the last 5 years and you're stuck. You have 15 years invested in a company are you going to leave and not get a pension? I don't think so. I think one thing that would help is if the company put a recording on saying to facilitate your call please be prepared to spell your listing. When you ask a customer "What listing please?" they don't even know what a "listing" means. I have had people that can't even spell the city they live in!!! Gonzales, La., etc. The bad part about 411 is that they insult you personally. "I said BRE not PRE are you stupid lady, where did you go to school? Get me someone who knows what they're doing." Of course the connection to their line is so bad it was a miracle you could get the RE let alone know if it was P or B before it. You have to learn to let it roll off your back because that person may have just had things go wrong but that means hardening yourself up and that can be good and bad. Bottom line no one belongs being abused like that but then again is it right to have different hours everyday and different days off every week to physically be able to deal with people. I don't think so. Also, the public doesn't know you can't sit there and look for something they want for an unlimited amount of time. You have to be done within 20 some odd seconds and can only do so many searches for them and they don't get it. It is money to your employer. (report)
