Called Friday to ask for the cross street of a business, and they gave me the phone number (which I already have). They don't know how to spell, often transfer you to the wrong number and then your cellular service charges you $2 a call.

If you already had the phone number, why didn't you just call the business directly and avoid the $2 in the first place???? 411 is a telephone directory, not your own personal concierge service. Sheesh!

I think you are being overly harsh. With a million numbers out there, it is your responsibility to know how to spell the name so they can differentiate from all of the other names that may be similar. And what made you think that the operators would know the cross streets? Aren't they only for phone numbers?

First of all you cannot expect them to have crosstreets and know what everything is about. They for all you know are in a different State where your buisness does not even exist. They handle phone call after phone call and don't have all day to attend to your one call. Also, don't expect them to just tell you the address, you have to request it before anything if not you will only get the phone number. Little piece of advise, if this happens in the future on your cell and you get charged $2 call back say you got the wrong listing and they should credit your account the money

Speaking for 411 Operators. We R not mind readers, we don't have maps, we don't have cameras to see you, we are not the billing department and can't give credit, we don't have access to the internet, we dont explain how to bake cakes, we can't spell names YOU CAN'T pronounce, we don't know your doctors. WE LOOK UP NUMBERS! And the next time you use the phone, make sure you have a pencil not a pen because it nevers fails when you tell us, "my pen won't write." USE some d--- common sense. And stop swearing at us some much. Do U kiss your Mother with that mouth? Geesz. Because all we are going to do it hang up on you then you'll have to call back and we end up making another $1.50 off of you anyway. One more thing. Call a 900 service for sex and stop trying to get a "cheap sex thrill" for an expensive $1.50. NUFF SAID!!

Operators are the lowest paid and most mistreated employees at the phone co...I just retired after 25 years there (Thanks God!!) Try sitting in one chair in front of a bright screen looking for numbers, directions, movie times etc. rarely being thanked and regularly being sworn at and hung up on. YOU should know the spelling..YOU should know what you want BEFORE you call us....get a phone book if you dont like the service and you will be given a credit if you arent' too lazy to call to get one.We are required to take upwards of a 1000 perfect calls a day (we are regularly listened to by management) Like working Holidays, weekends, driving in blizzards to get there (no excuses allowed) WELL, try our job for a while. I STILL have nightmares about people like you!!!!!!

try sitting on a chair for 8 hours, and taking 1000 calls per shift, i swear, you guys don't know how hard it is to find a number when the caller doesn't know how to pronounce the name, how to spell it, where it is on, most of the time, you guys are just depending it all on us, we're humans, not machine, you can't expect us to know everything, imagine us working on the christmas eve.. jeeeezzz...

Operators do not have cross streets, only exact address if listed. Wrong numbers typically occur when customer provides the wrong information, or accepts a suitable listing for the search provided. Operators can spell very well, but ask to confirm spelling just to ensure you get the right listing. Often callers hesitate and get angry, because they can't spell the listing that has supposedly been in business 200 years! We also ask for spelling if we can't understand the pronounciation. A lot of people who already have the number do call for an address, which continues to perplex the operators. You are charged for the service, the search to look up the listing. If you are polite and respectful, a credit will be issued as a courtesy and you are advised for future reference you will be charged for the search. If you do not like being asked how to spell the listing, then have no outside noises that will interefere with the call, speak clearly and normal, and keep in mind phoenetics. Over the phone a "V" like victor will sound like a "B" like boy to us. So if you want CVS but I hear CBS, I'm only verifying for your own good. The faster we connect you to the listing is the faster you can go on with your day, and thus helping the 999+ calls after you. We provide quick and accurate service if the customer provides understanding. After all, we don't scold you for not knowing the spelling of a name...to your doctor of 24 years. So don't scold us for not knowing the name of your childs school, that's your responsibility. Not ours.
