In one version of the many "Phantom of the Opera" versions out there, the Phantom is a very mischievious practical joker against a very bad tempered Prima Donna whose gaping lack of talent is equaled in magnitude only by her large ego. It inspired a few sections of my site, including one about a real singer I read about in a book titled "Opera's Greatest Disasters." It seems in one serious, dramatic opera TOSCA, the heroine commits suicide by jumping off the castle wall. The stagehands replaced the mattress on the other side with a trampoline. The bouncing diva was so publicly humiliated, she could not sing for the rest of the opera season. (Season ticket holders would laugh every time they saw her, remembering her night when she kept bouncing up from behind the castle wall.
