iPhone For Verizon - Stuck with Verizon    Back to the homepage

November 13, 2008: Everything you need to know about the iPhone for Verizon

Verizon Wireless, the No. 2 U.S. cellphone carrier, passed on the chance to be the exclusive distributor of the iPhone almost two years ago, balking at Apple's rich financial terms and other demands. More on this . . .While Cingular (er, AT&T, but you know what we mean) couldn't seem prouder of its iPhone exclusivity, apparently Apple's first choice was Verizon, but the two companies couldn't agree on a deal that worked for both companies. "We said no." Said Jim Gerace, a VZW VP. "We have nothing bad to say about the Apple iPhone. We just couldn't reach a deal that was mutually beneficial." Talks began as far back as two years ago, but Apple's demands were steep. They also give us an idea of what exactly is behind the Apple / Cingular agreement: Apple wanted a percentage of monthly service fees, control over distribution that would limit iPhone sales to Apple and Verizon stores, and even some control over service and support for iPhone customers. "They would have been stepping in between us and our customers to the point where we would have almost had to take a back seat ... on hardware and service support," say Gerace. Cingular doesn't quite see it that way, so perhaps Apple changed its conditions a bit when it started courting Cingy. Says Mark Siegel, a Cingular spokesman, "I don't want to leave the impression that these (iPhone) customers are not ours. They are." Mark also mentioned that Cingular would field calls related to wireless service, and that "We think this is a win for Apple, and it is a win for Cingular." Whether consumers -- who would have presumably had a fair shot at an EV-DO iPhone with Verizon as a service provider -- will win in the end is yet to be seen.

Anonymous (11/2): apple is an unfair business partner, just look at how they treat the music industry. I think verizon did what they had to do. (report)
anonymous2 (11/6): what with making it easier to steal music I beleieve apple did NOT save the music industry, in any shape, form or fashion.... Stepping in between the provider and customer is a bad idea... they were basically trying to make more than what their phones were worth... (report)
Anonymous (11/16): I don't know about "Brilliant", but sounds like a good move if apple was trying to slut verizon out too much. (report)
Anonymous (12/29): Actually... if I think... they took the idea of the iphone and created the Venus and the Voyager... who cares? Most people cant even afford to pay for the iphone and all of the costs for the video, internet etc... (report)
Anonymous (1/20): I am a Mac user... have been for years. I don't think this was the smartest thing VZ could have done, but it's not a blunder by any means. First, we all know that VZ is the best network out there. They are not losing any customers to Cingular over this (we rely on the VZ network too much to switch to an inferior service just for the iPhone). Second, the iPhone has its share of glitches and limitations. The contract b/w Cincular and Apple runs out in a couple of years at which point I'm sure the phone will be available with all providers and hopefully Apple will have worked out all the bugs by then. So really, Cingular didn't get much from this deal. They got a cool looking phone with bugs, and lets face it while they may have stolen business from other inferior providers such as T-mobile and Sprint they don't touch VZ, so it's not even a worry. (report)
bitetheapple (1/23): fuck apple! thats why windows always dominated the market! they are a bunch of socialists (apple)! (report)
Anonymous (1/31): we did it for the lulz (report)
larrylamar1 (2/8): yes i don't want to switch my company to get an IPHONE (report)
Anonymous (2/28): The greatest thing is the unlocked phones which can now be used with your Verizon contract that Apple and ATT won't get any piece of :) (report)
Anonymous (2/29): ZOMG Apple iz teh ghey!!!1!!11! iPhone iz crap n shood di3!!!!11!!1!!1 (report)
Anonymous (3/6): Great Decision VERIZON SUCKS!!!!!!! (report)
Anonymous (3/16): The iPhone is not yet mature. By the time you can get it on VZW it will be great and the iBugs will be worked out. (report)
Anonymous (3/25): The iPhone is a nice cell phone, but let's not pretend it's the be-all end-all of cell technology. There are other good phones from Palm and Blackberry that will only get better. I don't think Apple should get away with setting terms that entitle it to a chunk of all of Verizon's revenue just cause it's supplying one of their phones. At this point in time, I'm very happy with Verizon's service and won't go to AT&T just because of the iPhone. (report)
Anonymous (3/25): The reason we have Verizon is it's everywhere coverage and it's amazing customer service. Anything that would get in the way of that would hamper our satisfaciton with Verizon and we would probably leave. (report)
Anonymous (3/26): I'm not sure the music industry was in any trouble to begin with.... (report)
ruiza720 (5/14): GO VERIZON! its not only bad enough that the iphone sucks but its services make it all the worse. AT&T should switch their slogan to AT&T The network with the MOST dropped calls. LOWERING THE BAR! I ported out of verizon to AT&T because the iPhone had just came out and i bought it. Almost 500 dollars was my price out the door. went home and activated it thrue itunes. when it was active i called my wife and 12 minutes into the call it dropped it and would not have service for a while, Most of my calls would be dropped in places where AT&T is supposed to have THE BEST COVERAGE. a month and 7 days later i went to cirquit city and they had an LG Voyager on display, Now theres an iPhone KILLER, The best phone on the most reliable network for a cheaper price, What else can you ask for? I bought it right there and then and ported right out Of AT&T, sold that piece of crap iphone for 200 (What it is really worth) YOU HAVE TO BUY A SONG for .99 THEN 1.99 EXTRA TO MAKE INTO A RINGTONE, HOW STUPID AND CHEAP IS APPLE. basicly 3 dollars for a LOW QUALITY ringtone that you cant even set as a message or alarm tone. HOW DUMB!!! iphone's costomer service SUCKS because for some issues they have to transfer you to AT&T then Apple then AT&T then Apple and because of all the confusion, sometimes they dont even know what to do. I think verizon made the right decision turning that thing down, now they got a better iphone and i got a shirt that says i love the VZW Voyager. Rummors are starting to rise about the possibility of the iPhone comming to verizon, I bet VZW would even make that garbage likable. If they get it on CDMA i bet alot of people will just buy it and flash it to cricket. All in all, good choice Verizon Wireless, You are the network ant keep working with LG now there is a fair company that knows their technology... (report)
Anonymous (6/10): Verizon is known for making awful decisions, this is probably their worst (report)
Anonymous (6/30): Verizon hasn't built it's brand on fancy phones but it's network and customer base. They are sticking to what they know well, which in this case, is solid business acumen. Who knows, maybe Apple will again propose to Verizon when the AT&T contract allows. Why you ask? Because it makes good business sense for Apple. The fact Verizon stood strong, reinforces that. (report)
Anonymous (7/10): Verizon has the best network in the US, they don't need to let apple (who i'll remind you almost drove themselves into bankruptcy years ago and had to be bailed out by Microsoft with policies like this) run the show. AT&T's network is so terrible, I pitty anyone who has been sucker enough to switch over there just for the stupid iphone. I can always tell an AT&T customer when I talk to them on the phone, scratchy, breaks up, drops off, and hard to hear. In a couple of years time Apple will bring the iphone to verizon's network without all the profit sharing contract garbage they were requiring before. (report)
Anonymous (7/11): I have a Verizon contract and I want an iPhone but I think Verizon made the right choice. The iPhone made a big splash but I don't think Apple sold as many as they expected and AT&T probably didn't get the better end of the deal. Apple tends to shoot itself in the foot quite often by all the restrictions they put on the use/development of their products. There is no doubt that if Apple had released the iPhone for all the major networks, they would have at least quadrupled their sales. (report)
3DMD (7/16): Wow...lots of negative responses. The fact is this WAS an interesting business choice. Everyone knows common sense would say to go w/Apple...especially with what they have done for the music and the mp3 industry. However, Verizon Wireless has distinguished themselves as a Company with longevity and not a quick win fast money making product with a contract to say the least that was less than desirable for VZW. In order to speak intelligently about the matter you really have to know the telephony and wireless business. FACT is, Verizon Wireless rated and voted year over year as JD’s BEST in products and customer satisfaction and customer service. Not to mention that Verizon Wireless has less than a 1% churn rate even still AFTER the iPhone. For those of you who don’t know what a churn rate is…it’s the percentage at which customers are leaving a particular company. So again…YES its true, VZW has just under 1% churn rate. That means that 99% of VZW customers STAY with Verizon Wireless. Sounds like they know what they are doing to me…and yes I am a VZW satisfied customer. (report)
Anonymous (7/20): verizon is the worst phone company i have ever seen (report)
Anonymous (7/20): I don't think it is a brilliant move but it was NOT a blunder. Why sign a contract you don't agree with? To me it all comes down to a phone. This is a phone that does too much. I need something that will make and receive calls, thats it! Besides, the iphone doesn't have enough storage for me. I have an ipod and I find an 80gig is too small. I will stick with my imperfect monopolistic VZW because they have the best SERVICE not phone. Meh! (report)
Anonymous (7/20): I like penis (report)
Anonymous (7/25): Verizon has the best plan rates... but their phones are crap! Too bad we can't have best of both worlds. (report)
Anonymous (7/30): This was an excellent move by Verizon, as the LG Dare is Verizon's response to the iPhone. Apple wanted too much control, and Verizon gets to maintain its control with the LG Dare. Plus the Verizon network is much better than AT&T's. That's why you don't see AT&T commercials arguing this point. (report)
Anonymous (8/5): This article is silly. The first iPhone is a GSM phone, not CDMA. Verizon didn't pass up any opportunity, they weren't given it because of the technology. Now that the next iPhone is 3G, and Verizon is starting to bring on 3G networks they will now have the chance of getting an iPhone (report)
Anonymous (8/15): I'm sorry, but iPhones are for faggots. VZW's XV6800 is a far better phone, with far more capabilities, better browser, wider software base and smaller in length and width. (report)
Anonymous (8/17): smart move, the dare is great (report)
Anonymous (8/30): It would have been great for VZW to have an iPhone, but unless it was a good match, and allowed VZW to do what they do best (I love their ad today in the LA TImes 'Your phone is only as good as your network".. so true)...it COULD have been a good match, but needed Apple to understand that VZW brings a lot to the table. Is Mark Siegel the same guy that was a spokeman for Tandy/Radio Shack at one point? The company that lost VZW due to poor customer service and too many problems with their employees telling lies and then blaming VZW? Am I a VZW customer? Yes Would I like an iPhone? Yes.. but not unless it was on VZW network (report)
Anonymous (9/22): Good job Verizon. There will be alternatives down the road and your network will keep those customers with a need of good service with you. The iPhone is cool but not as cool as always knowing your phone will work. (report)
shawn (9/24): apple didn't save the music industry, electronic distribution saved the industry. Apple loves to nickel and dime their customers the same way they would have on any wireless network. (report)
FuckVerizon (10/1): The PEOPLE ON THIS LIST ARE FUCKING STUPID....VERIZON IS A BUNCH OF DUMBASSES AND FUCKED OVER THEIR FUTURE. (report)
Anonymous (10/2): Apple is being unreasonable (initially at least). They have dropped the price of it (with a contract -- rightfully so) however, insurance is still not covered. Also, Apple originally wanted full control over sales and support. Now both can be done by AT&T and Apple (which is more than most phones can say). Therefore, the initial move to pass? Good. However, as the current contract terms are between Apple and AT&T, hindsight, Verizon should have taken it. (report)
Anonymous (10/4): IPhone is a crappy phone. Cool Features but crappy phone. (report)
Anonymous (10/5): I know of alot of people who paid $150.00 to break the contract with Verizon to go with AT&T. I really want and Iphone and Love verizon but if the Iphone isn't offer by July2009 When my contract is over. AT&T here I come! (report)
672618 (11/6): i love verizon iphone (report)

Anonymous (11/15): Yeah, in hindsight they have to realize it was pretty dumb. Luckily they have a great network, but they underestimated how much this device was going to shake things up. And it's only getting started.. (report)
HeKnows (11/18): verizon never let the customer decide. verizon wants to create a monopoly (much like apple). too bad VW is loosing, as stated above, "the No. 2 U.S. cellphone carrier." Gerace didn't realize the no brainer-that apple would have to step in with assistance for tech support-it's an APPLE product, meaning there would naturally be areas that only apple could address. Rightly so, there would still be areas that only VW could address. It should have been a no brainer to accept the offer. I wonder how many people left or wanted to leave Verizon b/c of the iphone. (report)
Anonymous (11/21): Verizon's lack of choice in software and inferior applications is getting tiresome. I'm looking to switch away from Verizon and to the iPhone at earliest opportunity. There are simply fewer and fewer reasons to stick with Verizon with each passing day. (report)
Anonymous (11/25): Guys, I want a iPhone, but I don't have verizon.... Ah well... Its verizon's fault they don't use SIM cards. :( (report)
TLTaylor01 (11/28): True, Verizon continueally launches phones that the public is not interested in. Besides that you purchase a phone there. A week later it's obsolete. But given there ongoing crappy levels of customer service you learn to expect less from them or switch providers. (report)
Anonymous (11/29): I'm glad Verizon didn't take the iPhone. Every phone they get they strip down the software so you're forced to use their services instead of getting the phone you bought. Verizon would have ruined the iphone. (report)
Zimbobway (12/2): There would have been many more hits with the ipone for Verizon! More than Cingular! I would already have one by now. Verizon would make so much money. (report)

Anonymous (1/16): I wish I had an iphone but instead I'm stuck under contract with my boring verizon phone. I'm leaving verizon in May when my contract is up. (report)
Anonymous (1/18): Verizon is just greedy. The Iphone is TOO user friendly. They want everything to be esoteric and difficult so customers pay for services they don't use. Like Vcast music for instance. What crap. I bought a chocolate and that stupid music kit and have never been able to use it. What a load of BS that I have to BUY music that I already OWN just so I can listen to it on my phone. Or that I have to BUY for 3.99 a ringtone for a song I have already PURCHASED. Verizon likes ripping people off, and apple might have stood in the way of that. (Oh BTW, I am a verizon customer and have been for about 5 years. It is about the only system offered out here in the boonies). I just think all cell phone carriers need a swift kick in the ass. BADLY. And don't even get me started on the music industry. Oh poor them. Whatever. They need a cold boot also. (report)
Anonymous (1/18): I love apple and I would totally switch to at&t to get an Iphone, but unfortunately At&t is not offered where I live (in the midwestern boonies) so I have to stick with Verizon for now :( (report)
Anonymous (1/21): I've been with VZW for 4 years, but will be switching to ATT this fall just for the iphone. (report)
Anonymous (1/22): Verizon blew it!!!! Im just glad I don't need the iPhone. Wait a minute. Nah I need it! (report)
Anonymous (1/23): Wish Verizon would have made this work - I really like the service and everyone I know uses it. Switching to ATT for the iPhone would be a large cost to me - both on new hardware and paying for calls that used to be free. Please VZW, find a way. :) (report)
Anonymous (1/23): Verizon is #2, if they want to be #1 they need to learn to bend over a little to get there. Nothing wrong with taking the bad sit if you enjoy the ride. (report)
Anonymous (1/24): Anonymous (1/24) When my contract's up, I'll likely move on to iPhone. (report)
shadow (1/27): wow they past up the offer to sell the phone made by the company that revolutionized mp3 players in a way no other company can even try to amount to for... the voyager... smart move verizon... smart move... (report)
Anonymous (1/31): they did it for the lulz (report)
Anonymous (2/1): They super Blew it. I think it's funny that they keep covering for it with the "iphone killer." I've used this so called killer. If they wanted it to live up to it's nick name they should of armed it first. (report)
Anonymous (2/7): Verizon is the new evil empire. I would've switched to Cingular a year ago if I could have, I've wanted to switch since just after I got my brand new RAZR, took it home and found out that VZW disabled most of the cool features the phone came with. Bluetooth is severely crippled, the only thing that works is address book sync, everything else is disabled by Verizon to force users to use their pay-to-play services. If they did the same thing to the iPhone it would be basically useless. Unfortunately I can't switch to Cingular for another year, I'm locked into a 2yr contract. But as soon as that contract is over, I'm saying adios to Verizon and their monopolistic ways. (report)
Anonymous (2/9): Fucking jerks! (report)
Anonymous (2/9): They should have demanded the changes but not have passed on the iphone. It was a mistake to underestimate the apple customers love for tech stuff. (report)
Anonymous (2/25): Apple didn't save shit. More people download illegally than use iTunes rediculously incomplete library anyways. (report)
Anonymous (3/8): maybe not the greatest blunder ever...there's too many to count...but the carriers have always had too much control over the devices (meaning: ALL). apple had the clout to control the device. that changed the industry dramatically and will continue to change it...i'm a vz customer for years...like the svc generally, but i really might consider switching if i have to forever for VZ iPhone. (report)
Anonymous (3/14): Verizon would have cleaned up and wiped out the competition. They were too busy bleeding their customers for every penny instead of going for the gold. They should start listening to their customers....Apple is way better at developing user interfaces and Technological Innovation. Stop putting a Verizon tail-spin on the user interface; you don't know what you are doing. (report)
Anonymous (3/15): blah (report)
Anonymous (3/15): I have been with Verizon for years. When my current contract runs out, I am switching carriers so that I can have an iphone. It's really too bad because I have been very satisfied with my service. I have many Verizon lines, for business & personal. Too bad Verizon. Biggest mistake you could have made. If I am changing, you can be sure many, many others are changing as well. (report)
Anonymous (3/17): dumb move. (report)

lolzers (3/29): I think verizon can be very selfish when it comes to money..ive been on verizon forever i love them dont get me wrong but i think if verizon went with the deal they would have made their service alot better..verizon phones right now dont have good features and the iphone would have made a very nice impression for verizon (report)
sdfgsdfgsdfg (4/3): i love verizon and the iphone would be nice to have why cant they just be together more business would be at verizon (report)
Anonymous (4/5): Loosers... (report)
Anonymous (4/6): I really want an iPhone. My contract is up with Verizon and I am thinking of switching, but I travel a lot and like the coverage Verizon has. Wish I could have both. (report)
Anonymous (4/10): Verizon blew it big time. The iPhone would have placed their phone inventory in the 21st century. Their awesome network and Apple would have been unbeatable in the cell phone industry. Now folks, including myself, want to switch. This 2yr agreement BS is for the birds. Your phone is obsolete in 3 months but you have to keep it until your agreement is up for renewal in 2yrs. Why don't they understand -- the agreement should tie you to their service NOT the physical phone. Phones depreciate quicker than cars; they're garbage after 2yrs. (report)

jaya_23 (5/2): I think that Verizon blew it. AT&T has improved their network and continues to do so. While I still say Verizon has a better network (for now) AT&T is making it much easier to make the switch. For all those posts saying that nobody is leaving Verizon for the iPhone I personally know 6 people who have jumped. Verizon has always been higher priced than everyone else and has always carried boring phones, when is the last time people have spent the night in line for the big release of the LG Voyager. Come on!! I have played with the "iPhone killer" and I got to say it actually made me want an iPhone even more. (report)
Anonymous (5/5): I switched from AT&T to Verizon years ago....and found Verizon to be much better. But I really want an iPhone, so as soon as my contract is up it's bye bye Verizon. Wish Verizon didn't pass up the iPhone deal....I would have loved to stay with them. They blew it BIG. (report)
Anonymous (5/16): I love love love Verizon, and have been a customer since my first cell phone in 1998, but I'm seriously about ready to jump ship and go with AT&T just to get the iPhone. My contract is up in September 08, and I heard rumors that iPhone might be compatible with Verizon by this summer. If not, then I'm going to AT&T. Sucks, because all of my family and most of my friends are on Verizon, but hey, I'll just email them more instead. (report)
trentaiken (5/19): The most innovative phone produced. Essentially they fumbled one of the most lucrative deals possible. They are likely to lose me as a customer because of it. (report)
Anonymous (5/29): verizon is so dumb for not doing this. they should have taken the chance, and if they didn't like it, well then they should've cancelled it somehow. ;p (report)

(report)
VZW1 (6/21): lol.... Verizion still add more customers then ATT in the last year and lost less then them too.... How many people have the IPhone? less than 1/2% of verizons total customer base... Lets be real would you let another company in the middle of you and your customers to just get another million? (report)
Anonymous (6/22): Verizon offered me a phone upgrade after only 12 months (instead of the normal 22 months) to try an keep me from switching to ATT for the iPhone. (report)
Anonymous (6/22): They could have made so much more money in the long run. Verizon is more reliable and overall better than at&t (report)
abcyesn (6/24): I think Verizon is in a losing battle when the 3G iPhone comes out. $199 for a faster and better iPhone, doubt any carrier can beat that.. (report)
Anonymous (6/26): That's just bullshit. Isn't Verizon like, the most popular? I have Verizon. Does that mean I can't have an iPhone? (report)
Anonymous (6/28): Biggest Blunder. I'm with VZ and I'm moving to AT&T just for the sake of device after my contact ends next month. (report)
Anonymous (6/29): ever since the iphone I've been looking at whats out in europe and asia. bottom line vz has a great network but lousey phones. Contract is up in 3 months and I will be moving even if I don't get iphone. May order from europe (htc) cruise or diamond (report)
4tww (7/3): fuck verizon.. i have it and love it. but i want the iphone 3g (report)
vzwisanidiot (7/3): with the 5 year agreement, ATT will pull the distance further from VZW, I've been with VZW for years and I will be switching to iphone 3G. Now that the terms of iphone with ATT has been disclosed, its cleared that VZW feel it would loose money over the content (GET IT NOW, software apps etc...) It rather continue to provide customers inferior apps at high costs rather than providing customer what they want. Who ever made the decision for not signing iphone should be fired... (report)
Anonymous (7/13): Verizon phones are ugly, and fall apart quickly. The samsungs are somewhat better than the motorolas were 5 years ago, but that isn't saying much. If the iphone is built as well as my apple computer, then I'm willing to pay for it. I've been with Verizon since I bought my first cellphone in 2000, but I'm definitely waiting for my contract to expire now. If I can't get the iphone on verizon when that happens (in one year), I'm gone. (report)
Anonymous (7/16): For me, it sucks. I have Verizon but I want an iphone. I am waiting for Verizon to come up with a serious contender for the iphone because AT&T lost my business a few years back. I am going to wait and see what they come up with but so far Verizon may be taking a hard hit from the iphone competition. (report)
Tai (7/16): This was a HUGE blunder for Verizon! You must understand the Apple experience to get why they demanded so much control of Verizon. The company is built on making sure its customers feel special. Of course you pay more for that feeling. Kind of like a high priced hooker. A crack whore will get the job done but the high priced hooker will give you an experience. I personally would not want to deal with Verizon CS for my IPhone. I think Verizon and Apple started cock fighting and now we ended up with ATT Iphones. Apple knew they had something hot. Why should they bow down to anyone? Apple has the product and Verizon was just a distributer. Simple business. (report)
FoxRider (7/16): I think the whole thing is a blunder on Apples end. I know many others including myself who would like the iPhone, but many of us refuse to contract with AT&T "CingCing". In an open market with service providers Apple would have been even more profitable. (report)
Anonymous (7/17): HUGE mistake, but it doesn't really surprise me. In my experience, working with Verizon as a major accounts customer has shown me an interesting side to Verizon...and not a good interesting. There have been many times where I've thought of switching and the iPhone just makes it all the more tempting. (report)
Anonymous (7/20): I've been very happy with Verizon as a provider, but dang it I want one of those iPhones! I'll definitely be researching the features as my contract nears expiration, and if Verizon doesn't have either the iPhone or something pretty dang close at that point, they may lose me. I know that's not going to make much of a difference to them though! LOL (report)
Anonymous (7/20): Verizon Wireless has a completely understandable explanation as to why they turned down Apple. However, I highly doubt that Verizon would not have greatly benefitted from a partnership with Apple, and exclusively providing service to the very popular iPhone. This is probably one of the greatest blunders they have ever made, and I hope that Verizon is able to own part of the iPhone within the next year or so. Come to think of it, (as a Verizon customer myself for years) I considered switching to AT&T/Cingular, and the only thing holding me back was the fact that my siblings do not get any service other than Verizon at their southern based colleges. The best deal was to stick with Verizon... and hope for the best in the near future. (report)
Anonymous (7/20): verizon is retarded now we have to use AT&T (report)
Anonymous (7/21): verizon was so smart that they lost me and many, many other customers on 7/11. understand that you are a service provider like comcast and that you don't have control over EVERY device on your network. AT+T did. I'm happy. (report)
Anonymous (7/23): Verizon overall has the best customer service anywhere. I would know, I worked there for 2 and 1/2 years, we were required to bend over backwards for our customers. Verizon made a wise move not agreeing to Apple's controlling rules--why would they want to shuffle their customers back and forth between technical representatives if they have problems with the phone? How is that convenient for the customer? It is not only because Verizon is a "greedy" company, it's because they care about their customer base and foresaw the wide array of glitches this new iPhone was going to have. Also, the 3-month warranty Apple gives on the phone is pathetic and not up to Verizon standards of customer care whatsoever (report)
Anonymous (7/26): It was akin to every major label in Nashville passing on Garth Brooks, and the record exec who told the then unknown Beatles that guitar bands were a passing fad. (report)
Anonymous (7/27): Obviously, iPhone is the most popular cellphone of all time. Therefore, Verizon made and absolutely horrible mistake. A monopoly on such a phone, regardless of Apple's terms, could not possibly be anything less than great. (report)
Anonymous (7/27): I was a Verizon customer before the 3G. Switched to AT&T for the iPhone 3G. Service is horrible compared to Verison around phoenix. The iPhone 3G is excellent. We may have to go back to Verizon since my business depends on good service - hate to give up the 3g's if we do! (report)
Anonymous (7/28): That sucks. Verizon is the bestand the sad thing is im with cingular and don't even have an iphone yet O_o (report)
Anonymous (7/30): iPhone is a fantastic phone... I just wish I could have used it on the network with the best service. (report)
Anonymous (8/5): Fact, Apple forced the music industry to modernize by inventing the mp3 player market with the ipod and is now doing the same the cellphone industry with the iphone. Verizon had the chance to be the place you had to go to play and passed. Verizon though they had all the cards. Bone head move. Now Verizon pitches iphone knock-offs in the hopes of confusing the customer into believing that the Verizon phones offer some of the iphone's quality and features. Wrong but it will work to some extent. Enough that the everyone at Verizon can claim they are not idiots for passing on the golden goose because their plan worked. Kind of. (report)
longcipher (8/7): Of course they blew it! Do we really need to justify this bad decision with facts? (report)
Anonymous (8/8): they know that the iphone is better than all their iclones, they shouldve accepted it but they mightve been thinking otherwise when they decided. now with the glyde, voyager, all these new phones that are iphone competitors but they know theyll regret the choice (report)
Anonymous (8/8): they now r the US's biggest carrier with alltel the least they couldve done is gotten freakin exclusitivity! (report)
fwef (8/12): retards!!!! (report)
Anonymous (8/13): Prior to the apps store, the iPhone was sort of a yawn in my opinion. Now, I really want one, but I will not switch to at&t for that privilege. Verizons coverage is amazing, but I think if they left the iPhone OS intact, that would be an unrivaled combination. Shame Apple is so damn greedy. Shame on you, Steve Jobs. (report)
Anonymous (8/15): I would say retarded, I have four lines with verizon and I'm so ready to pass on them and move on to cingular(AT&T) because of this. (report)
Anonymous (8/18): Verizon phones have always sucked. Their network is top notch, but they leave the customer holding the bag when they fail to get the latest phones, even Blackberry. Sprint and VZW both suck in this arena. Cingular/AT&T still gets the best Blackberry phones first, on top of the iPhone! (report)
Anonymous (8/22): It's the Iphone and there is nothing else to say. Verizon dropped the ball and although it is a small market share (according to Verizon) that is leaving, it would have been a great opportunity for Verizon and Apple to forge a good relationship. (report)
Anonymous (8/29): Short term Verizon is going to make a nice profit on my cancellation fee. Long term probably not so smart a move. Verizon wasn't even smart enough to go with Android. Their network might be the best in the US, but others are good enough for most people and getting better. The other companies phones and services are rapidly outpacing the crappy phones and services of Verizon and they are going to see more and more people leaving. (report)
Anonymous (9/2): i dont really need an iphone for my needs, but many ppl do. and some ppl are switching to att just to get it. dumb ass verizon HAD to have their own OS. wake up! the verizon os sucks. verizon should just make sim cards, and let manufacturers worry about phones and OSs. but no, verizon HAS to limit usability for its own benefit. (report)
Anonymous (9/7): OMG BRING IT TO US (report)
Anonymous (9/9): GET THE IPHONE FOR VERIZON PLEASE (report)
markflanders123 (9/10): I've been a VZW customer for 15 years, their service is fantastic. I wanted the iPhone so bad I bought one on a trial basis for a month. I L-O-V-E the phone! but AT&T S-U-C-K-S!!!!! Constantly dropping calls! No Service, No Service, No Service!!! I spoke with their customer service many times during my 30 day trial period and got many conflicting answers to my questions. Apple made a REALLY BAD choice in partnering with AT&T. And Verizon screwed up royally by not pertnering with Apple. I heard a rumor that someone actually took an iPhone apart & rewired it to work with Verizon... They could make millions doing that. (report)
Anonymous (9/16): Idiots. The iPhone is the biggest technological advancement in the cell phone industry. Nothing has come even close to matching the iPhone's capabilities since its release and AT&T's subscriptions have grown as a result. What a bunch of idiots. (report)
Anonymous (9/17): Verizon. Was. Dumb. The end. (report)
diesel (9/19): I want an I phone damn it and im stuck with Verizon for another year (report)
Anonymous (9/19): bad descision because i am a buisness man and the iphone is what my comopany requires but i dont have at&t so i had to switch and i know they are loosing buisness (report)
Anonymous (9/19): Must feel retarted now that the iPhone is being sold in Best Buy stores. One of Verizon's reasons for rejecting the offer was that the phone would only be sold by apple and at verizon stores (online and in-store) but not a third-party retailers they have deals with. (report)
Anonymous (9/20): worst mistake! (report)
Anonymous (9/20): Verizon should have taken the deal. They missed out on me... Go Apple! (report)
Anonymous (9/28): Idiots...it makes me so angry that I was *this* close to being able to get an iPhone without having to leave Verizon...but then Verizon blew it. (report)
Anonymous (9/30): good but bad...mom works for verizon...coulld have messed up the company...but i want one!!! (report)
FuckVerizon (10/1): IF VERIZON IS SMART. THEY WOULD STOP MAKING THE SHITTY VOYAGE PHONES ALREADY....THEY SHOULD INVEST SOME MONEY....AND BUY OUT CINGULAR IN A COUPLE OF YEARS......THEN THE IPHONE IS ON ITS WAY/ dam straatttess bitches (report)
Anonymous (10/3): Absolutely a stupid move. I've been Verizon for years and like MANY of people in the same boat, I am leaving and going to AT&T. (report)
Anonymous (10/5): The Iphone is awesome. Nothing Verizon has even comes close. Verizon would do a great thing if instead of trying to catch up with the Iphone come out a step ahead of the Iphone. With the business man included. Like exchange and outlook compatibility. (report)
Anonymous (10/6): Retarded move (report)
Anonymous (10/6): VZW blew it big time. They knew Apple wouldn't let VZW cripple the iPhone like so many of the VZW phones, so VZW passed. And with it, passed on retaining Verizon customers. Nice job, VZW! (report)
Anonymous (10/8): Yeah, bad call. (report)
bobbbuu (10/12): FUCK! (report)
Anonymous (10/15): Idiots. Lack of iPhone is the only beef I have with Verizon. (report)
anonymoZ (10/16): I would have bought an iPhone for the full price of $400 if it was on the Verizon network. AT&T and T-mobile both have bad reception in Southern California where I live when compared to Verizon. EV-DO is also faster than 3G so the iPhone's functionality would've been boosted with Verizon. (report)
Anonymous (10/20): I think that it was really stupid. Most people I know have verizon! A&TT wasn't a terrible choice either but if they went with verizon i think it would have been much better. (report)
USNS (10/20): MR. ANONYMOUS2....you are retarded. verizon needs good phones and the music industry is full of people who need no saving. do i have to quote south park? music will be stolen with or without the iphone being on verizon's network so why not let all your customers enjoy its B.A. capabilities. (report)
Panas08 (10/22): I wish they didnt turn it down. I'm considering switching networks to get the iPhone. Everything I own is apple, why not my phone too? (report)
vwofford (10/22): Verizon would have been smart to join with Apple because the young and up and coming world really likes Apple. I know more people that are committed to Apple than Verizon and may be leaving at the end of their contracts. (report)
Anonymous (10/24): goodbye customers, hello iphone. (report)
Anonymous (10/24): potatoe wedge (report)
harbormaster (10/26): As popular this phone is, I bet an amazing amount of people switched carriers in order to get an IPhone. I know I did and I had verizon for 10 years (report)
Anonymous (10/26): lets just say that as a verizon customer i have considered moving back to Cingular/ AT&T multiple times for the iphone. Sure verizon has touch phones but the only one that seems to work is the dare. I do like Verizon, considering that I rarely have a dropped call, but I cant think of a single verizon phone I want, except for maybe a blackberry. Not to mention that their data plans are expensive and their customer service is a joke. (report)
Anonymous (11/4): I want the iPhone on Verizon. (report)
Anonymous (11/11): As an avid Mac user both at home and in my business, I appreciate Apple's control over both the operating system and hardware. That's why our Macintosh computers work so well, and our employees' productivity is so rarely affected by either hardware or software problems. I would like to have that same benefit in our company phones, but we're stuck in a contract with Verizon. I will reavaluate that when our contract expires and may switch to AT&T unless Verizon finds a way to work with Apple and offer iPhones. (report)
Anonymous (11/11): in many respects the iphone wins hands down. but sacrificing service for an iphone isnt worth it. Everyone reads 'Apple has high demands and it seems Verizon is trying to compromise. But Are there efforts on Apples side to compromise? You'd think they'd make more money if it was on a 'better network.' .. I can see ATT on its way as far as performance is concerned but it has yet to impress on Verizons level. (report)
