verizon never let the customer decide. verizon wants to create a monopoly (much like apple). too bad VW is loosing, as stated above, "the No. 2 U.S. cellphone carrier." Gerace didn't realize the no brainer-that apple would have to step in with assistance for tech support-it's an APPLE product, meaning there would naturally be areas that only apple could address. Rightly so, there would still be areas that only VW could address. It should have been a no brainer to accept the offer. I wonder how many people left or wanted to leave Verizon b/c of the iphone.

Verizon is just greedy. The Iphone is TOO user friendly. They want everything to be esoteric and difficult so customers pay for services they don't use. Like Vcast music for instance. What crap. I bought a chocolate and that stupid music kit and have never been able to use it. What a load of BS that I have to BUY music that I already OWN just so I can listen to it on my phone. Or that I have to BUY for 3.99 a ringtone for a song I have already PURCHASED. Verizon likes ripping people off, and apple might have stood in the way of that. Verizon is the new evil empire. I would've switched to Cingular a year ago if I could have, I've wanted to switch since just after I got my brand new RAZR, took it home and found out that VZW disabled most of the cool features the phone came with. Bluetooth is severely crippled, the only thing that works is address book sync, everything else is disabled by Verizon to force users to use their pay-to-play services. If they did the same thing to the iPhone it would be basically useless. Unfortunately I can't switch to Cingular for another year, I'm locked into a 2yr contract. This was a HUGE blunder for Verizon!
You must understand the Apple experience to get why they demanded so much control of Verizon.
The company is built on making sure its customers feel special. Of course you pay more for that feeling. Kind of like a high priced hooker.
A crack whore will get the job done but the high priced hooker will give you an experience. I personally would not want to deal with Verizon CS for my IPhone.
I think Verizon and Apple started cock fighting and now we ended up with ATT Iphones. Apple knew they had something hot. Why should they bow down to anyone?
Apple has the product and Verizon was just a distributer. Simple business.

Verizon Wireless has a completely understandable explanation as to why they turned down Apple. However, I highly doubt that Verizon would not have greatly benefitted from a partnership with Apple, and exclusively providing service to the very popular iPhone. This is probably one of the greatest blunders they have ever made, and I hope that Verizon is able to own part of the iPhone within the next year or so. Come to think of it, (as a Verizon customer myself for years) I considered switching to AT&T/Cingular, and the only thing holding me back was the fact that my siblings do not get any service other than Verizon at their southern based colleges. The best deal was to stick with Verizon... and hope for the best in the near future.

Verizon made a wise move not agreeing to Apple's controlling rules--why would they want to shuffle their customers back and forth between technical representatives if they have problems with the phone? How is that convenient for the customer? It is not only because Verizon is a "greedy" company, it's because they care about their customer base and foresaw the wide array of glitches this new iPhone was going to have. Also, the 3-month warranty Apple gives on the phone is pathetic and not up to Verizon standards of customer care whatsoever

MR. ANONYMOUS2....you are retarded. verizon needs good phones and the music industry is full of people who need no saving. do i have to quote south park? music will be stolen with or without the iphone being on verizon's network so why not let all your customers enjoy its B.A. capabilities.

Verizon would have been smart to join with Apple because the young and up and coming world really likes Apple. I know more people that are committed to Apple than Verizon and may be leaving at the end of their contracts.

As popular this phone is, I bet an amazing amount of people switched carriers in order to get an IPhone.
I know I did and I had verizon for 10 years

lets just say that as a verizon customer i have considered moving back to Cingular/ AT&T multiple times for the iphone. Sure verizon has touch phones but the only one that seems to work is the dare. I do like Verizon, considering that I rarely have a dropped call, but I cant think of a single verizon phone I want, except for maybe a blackberry. Not to mention that their data plans are expensive and their customer service is a joke.

As an avid Mac user both at home and in my business, I appreciate Apple's control over both the operating system and hardware. That's why our Macintosh computers work so well, and our employees' productivity is so rarely affected by either hardware or software problems. I would like to have that same benefit in our company phones, but we're stuck in a contract with Verizon. I will reavaluate that when our contract expires and may switch to AT&T unless Verizon finds a way to work with Apple and offer iPhones.

in many respects the iphone wins hands down. but sacrificing service for an iphone isnt worth it. Everyone reads 'Apple has high demands and it seems Verizon is trying to compromise. But Are there efforts on Apples side to compromise? You'd think they'd make more money if it was on a 'better network.' .. I can see ATT on its way as far as performance is concerned but it has yet to impress on Verizons level.
