gay accents    Back to the homepage
I embrace and appreciate people of all sexual orientations. I even entertain and consider the idea that some people are "born" gay. But please someone tell me, How do all gay guys develop some sort of gay accent?! You know what I'm talking about....

jimmy (10/17): My guess is its all about identification and identity. Identification for locating (similarly oriented) people and identity for aligning oneself to a safe group of similarly oriented people. Therefore, part learned. But also part survival. (report)
Posse (10/19): Well, being 43 and have lived through much of the World, not all gay men have that accent (LOL - as I know what you mean). Just about every gay man I know speaks normal, and yes, the accent can grate the nerves of us normal speaking gay men too. What's a notable thought is why do you, a young gal in her mid-20s, draw only the gay men with accents? ;-) I have to be honest, most of the straight young woman I see in public with gay men are generally accompanied by the boys with the accent. I think it's a strong connection because I do believe many woman feel safe with gay men and don't feel they have to be on the defensive of some guy trying to make his move. We see so much of the accent because main stream media sterotypes it for sales, ratings, whatever. It's similiar how most white americans (and I'm white) believe all African Americans say things like "can I axed you a question." I work with many African American men and women who are speak well and are very articulate. Guess it's sort of the same perception. (report)

meredithu2 (10/27): dude, its cause women normally talk with a lot more pitch and fluxuations in there voices and some gay men talk like that, like women. my friend and i are both girls and we recorded our voices and with a program on my computer, we made our voices a low pitch to sound like a guys voice, and we ended up sounding like gay men. thats my theory, anyway... (report)
Anonymous (11/15): i have a gay friend who doesnt talk gay as at all. get fucked. (report)
Valkyrie123 (1/19): Its due to a physical deformity. By having lots of oral sex pressure is placed on the front teeth. After many years the teeth start to move forward bending straight out of the mouth. This newly formed space in front of the tongue causes the gay lisp. Really, I wouldnt shit you guys, youre my favorite turds. (report)
pickering (6/20): That is such an ignorant thing to say- how dare you! And as for the "gay accent" being a medical deformity due to oral sex- that is just malicious lies spread by homophobes. (report)

What is the American facsination with the Irish? The Irish have completely branded themselves shamelessly as four leaf clover toting leprochauns to an adoring US public.
