YouTube is the next Napster    Back to the homepage

I like youtube just like everyone else but if my job were to figure out how to monetize the site working around all of the copyrighted material well forget it. It smells like Napster 1999 all over again.

vloghog2007 (4/8): Having accounts at both Youtube and Live365.com, I have some insight. Live365.com used to charge me $70.00 a month to upload mp3s to their server. I was given 1000 MBs. Granted that part of Live365.com fees go towards paying licensing fees. At Youtube you are allowed 100 mb per upload with an unlimited amount of uploads for free. There are untold thousands of accounts at Youtube who upload thousands of gigs of material everyday. If Youtube is going to keep its high rankings it will have to 1. Charge people for uploading, 2. Charge a license fee for copyrighted material and 3. Charge people for joining. (Much like Napster did after all the lost lawsuits.) Right now, all of this is free. It cannot last. (report)
