I have a wonderful idea where the government can get the money to rebuild New Orleans and all of the other communities that were destroyed by Katrina. . . .eliminate ALL of the foreign aid that we give the rest of the world!! Face it, most of the world hates our guts but takes our money. I really don't get a big charge out of knowing that my tax dollar goes to some 3rd or 4th world country that would just as soon blow us off the face of the earth if they only had the capability. Just eliminating the billions that we give Israel would certainly help American citizens. And while we're at it, put tariffs on goods from China to help pay for the recovery!! I can certainly do without a few pairs of shoddily made shoes. America has unfortunatly become the "piggy bank" for the rest of the world.

Hey! How about for every MILLION bucks the General Accounting Office can't account for, we draw straws so one of the companies SPENDING that money pay a thousand bucks to rebuild the coast??
you gotta admit, that would sure rack up the cash since BILLIONS in tax dollars can not be accounted for.

I know it's too much to ask that you crack a history book and see that your moronic proposal has failed time and again. I'm not just talking about U.S. history, but history going all the way back to the Greeks. Foreign aid is the CHEAP alternative to war, economic instability, and chaos. It takes money to make money and preserve the peace. In your pipe dream of stupidity you think that, were we to stop paying foreign aid, the world would go on just hunky dory and that we won't be affected by external events. --Snap out of it, cottagehead. -- And as for tariffs on China, YOU will pay for it, not the Chinese. And those really, really nice shoes you own were ALSO made in China. Pull your head out of your ass and take a good look around.
