In a global economy it still baffles me that a liter soda is the only thing the US has converted to the metric system. We are is the only major economy to retain a cumbersome and soon to be obsolete English Units of measurements– and it is hurting our competitiveness in the global economy. As a global supplier of +$500m systems it is an utter waste of time interfacing metric and English designed equipment and systems, let alone keeping track of metric and English bolts, nuts washers, ect. Are we so emotionally attached to 32 deg. F for freezing and 212 deg. F for boiling water (vs 0 deg. C and 100 deg. C) and 12 inches to the foot that that we are willing to hamper our competitiveness in this global economy? If we are not careful, the Chinese Yuan will no longer be pegged to the US dollar, the Dollar will be pegged to the Yuan.

This problem was recognized many decades ago, but our leaders have always chosen short term profits over long term planning. The Asians are not so myopic, and they have invested in the long term. So we have had our short term reign of power and in the long term they will take financial control.
