UCLA #1 In College Basketball

If this years college football season has taught us anything its that the upcoming college basketball season is not to be trusted. And anointing UCLA as the #1 team in college basketball is a mistake. UCLA is a notorious big-game choker. Not that they dont have the talent to be the #1 team in college basketball, but for the last 20 years theyve had trouble living up to such lofty expectations. Oh, sure, there was the championship in 95. And Final Four appearances the last two years. But all three of those seasons were 30-win seasons. In other words, a team already achieving as opposed to stepping up to achieve. And that 94-95 team needed a miraculous buzzer-beater to stay alive in the tournament.
More impressive or unimpressive as the case may be than UCLAs 3 Final Four appearances in the last 15 years has been its ability to play down to its opponents, especially when picked to accomplish the supreme feat of being #1 in college basketball. UCLA does not wear the crown well.
