Taxpayers' Responsibility?    Back to the homepage
Views: 1146 Report
Since when did our country start depending on the Feds for everything? Do people even know and understand the purpose and role of the government as outlined by the Constitution? Government is already too big! I saw a woman on TV the other day crying about "who's gonna pay my bills?" now that the hurricane came through! Is she serious? Who's going to pay her bills? Since when is it MY responsibility to pay someone else's bills? This is the problem with the Welfare state in America. Heck, we should just change our name to that: The Welfare States of America! I'm sorry peoples' homes got destroyed. I really am. No one wants to see their fellow Americans left homeless after something this terrible (except maybe proponents of Big Government). But shoveling mounds upon mounds of money into something like this makes little sense. The city is below sea-level. The levees are crap. The mayor doesn't give a damn. He even was recorded telling local community leaders that they were on their own if something should happen. The governor just wants to point fingers. And meanwhile, people are refusing to leave the town, looters are shooting at rescue helicopters, medical caravans are getting robbed, and all of this, (YES, ALL), could have been avoided. The hurricane almost hit last year and they were worried about the city flooding. It didn't happen, and people sat on their thumbs. People were given the opportunity to evacuate. Many stayed behind. The mayor didn't even bother worrying about people, as evidenced by the hundred or so buses left sitting in a parking lot. All that, to say this: Why is this then, the responsibility of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? When will people start taking responsibility for their own lives and own well-being and stop looking to others for help AND blame!?? It makes me sick!!!

shamslam (10/24): FlemFlanders, apparently you didn't read my letter very well. I'm not saying there wasn't negligence. Heck, I'm down right disappointed myself with the disaster response. My point is, the STATE should be doing much to help prevent, succor, and aid those people. The problem is it seems that the politicians are taking every possible opportunity to either boost their own rep or knock down the other sides. BOTH sides are doing it. The liberals blame GW and the Reps use it as an opportunity to say "how much we care!" by writing a blank check. This screws EVERYONE! My point is that the American people seem to want just a monetary handout when something bad happens and every time we write that blank check it just feeds the handout mentality. (report)

FlemFlanders (10/11): FEMA gets tax dollars to do this. they didn't do it. bummer. I saw the Bush Administration on t.v. having a GRAND old time while people were on their roofs screaming for help. you don't think the people in charge should give a damn? fine. many do. After all, that's why FEMA gets OUR money, isn't it? Too bad we don't have a picture of the truckloads of food and ice that couldn't get to people that needed them. Maybe more people would care. Besides, FEMA said NOT to use those buses. Stay good and mad at the victims, that's your right. I'm pretty mad at the people who didn't do anything til they realized it looked bad. That's my right. (report)
Ballerina (10/14): People nowadays think that the government owes them a living. Meanwhile, the middle class is squeezed for more and more taxes and less and less return. When the Federal Government shut down a while ago, did you suffer any harm? I say to ban income taxes!! We, the people who pay the tab, get absolutely nothing in return. People need to assume responsibility for themselves. Other than the fire department and maybe the post office, I can see no return on any taxes that I and my family have paid for generations. None of us even went to public schools--some illegal who pays no taxes got our places. A very few of the people who lost everything are entitled to compensation (from their insurance companies that they paid through the nose for coverage. HA!) but it seems that the vast majority are parasites on the people who pay the bills! I agree with you!! (report)
ronc99 (10/23): The other day a huge fire took the main building of n Amish community lumber yard. Their response when asked "What are you going to do now? That was important to your livelyhood." They said, simple, WE WILL REBUILD IT! They do not need a grant, a loan, nothing. They are prepared for such things, and group together to do what is needed. What do we do? We yell, "Help, I cant get up! Someone help me, I did not save, or insure, or plan for this. It is YOUR responsibility to save me." Bull KAKA. (report)
