Targeted Google ads on this site    Back to the homepage
Views: 4184 Report
It's amazing. How are the Google ads on this site targeted to the subject matter of the posting. What sort of algorithm did these guys write to handle that sort of thing? Of course, I guess some poor slob making $6.00/hour could be checking every single posting and then manually adding the ads, but I doubt it.

Bones (8/21): Pedro - we're using google adsense on the posting pages and they dynamically read the page and then determine which ads to serve. We're hoping this will help pay our hosting fees, although we've got a long way to go. Thanks. (report)
neforum (4/9): You'll never find out how the Google Adsense algorithm works, it's top secret, but basically a bot visits the page, indexes the text and tries to determine the subject of the page. It doesn't always work, sometimes the content isn't specific enough, but clearly it does work here ok. (report)
