Solar energy just got a lot cheaper and thinner    Back to the homepage

One of the biggest knocks on solar energy has been that it costs too much and the panels are too rigid and take up way too much space. Well, now solar energy and the cheap reusable fuel it provides, is ready to take a big step forward. Solar energy cells, which are as thin as paint, can be coated over any surface to collect solar energy. The PowerSheet cells are one-tenth cheaper to make than previous solar energy panels and they use no silicon, making the process to construct them much easier. The solar energy cells are built by Nanosolar and work so well they could be coated into roof shingles to give solar energy to the entire world, cheaply and easily. Reusable fuel is a necessity as we go forward into the future and this invention just might take us there. The first 100,000 cells are being shipped to Europe where construction on a solar energy, 1.5 megawatt, plant will begin early next year.
