I recently read a magazine article about child proofing your home, and the biggest safety risks that many Moms miss. Afterwards, I couldn't help but think that, based on what was in the article, my son is lucky to have made it to 2-and-a-half years old unscathed! I thought I did (and was doing) a good job, but it's often the things that you don't think about when child proofing your home that end up being the biggest risks. Take baby gates for example. When child-proofing your home, it's common sense to put baby gates at the top of stairs; the thought of my son climbing UP the stairs and toppling down again, and the need to put a gate on the bottom, didn't even occur to me. There are plenty of other seemingly innocuous things - from the size of fingerfood you serve at a party to the ornaments on your coffee table - to keep in mind when child proofing your home, which makes me think it's truly an impossible task and that near enough is often good enough!
