BMW Run Flats Suck    Back to the homepage
Views: 2497 Report
I am a huge BMW Fan and have owned & leased for the last 5 years. I had no problems with my Z4 Roadster and shed a tear when I returned my 325 Ci at lease end (beautiful car). I took my 2007 328i in for scheduled maintenance today and I was told my tires are shot. Not what I wanted to hear. I only have 14,000 miles on the car! They explained that the pressure on the tires went equally low on all four at the same time which is why the pressure gauge did not light up and warn me. Doesn't sound like my fault! Then I was politely "accused" of being a heavy foot driver and all the burning out wore down the tires. Excuse me!?! My husband nicknamed me Driving Miss Daisy and asks me why I drive a BMW if I am going to baby it! So after failed attempts of trying to put all the blame on the customer and sucker me into a $900 expense ($281 per tire (x2), $235 wheel alignment and $50 balancing fee plus sales tax) I said I will pick up my car as is and figure it out on my own. Here I am on the internet looking to see what my fellow BMW owners & leasees are experiencing and it is the same. I think it is crap. For paying over $41,000 for a beautiful piece of machinery, you should stand behind your product and quit blaming the owners who are driving the car. If the tires suck, call the tire manufacturer - Bridgestone- and demand either a discount or comp us all new tires. It is called conducting business - something I do every day. If Bridgestone can't come through for you, cancel their contract and hire Goodyear or Yokohama. I have to shell out the dough to replace the tires -okay- but it is entirely too early - we are talking 15 months of driving! I guess what pisses me off the most is this is a lease, so I can expect to replace the tires AGAIN before turning it back in at lease end. Forget about buying this one! BMW, if you read these blogs, myself and several hundred other BMW drivers are displeased. You should do something to compensate us for bad shoes you chose.

Anonymous (6/10): I too am a huge BMW fan...second BMW 325 in four years. However, I'm having the exact same problem with the RFT's...they look as though I've been driving 75,000 miles on them. I am taking my 325xi in to the BMW dealer tomorrow to have them look at the tire wear because I had the indicator light come on. While I do have 38,000 miles on the car, I bought it as a demo with 15,000. The tires make a loud noise (I attributed it to the all wheel drive), but now that I see the actual tires, I'm upset that I've been driving unsafely for 18 months and better yet, the BMW service, let me. This truly is a disappointment for me and want either BMW or Bridgestone to make it right. I paid $42,000 for my car and I don't think my tires should be shot at this point. Interestingly enough...my car was in for scheduled maintenance only two months ago and the BMW dealer never even mentioned the tires and the wear. I agree BMW and Bridgestone should replace the tires at no charge or risk a law suit. BMW Owner & totally displeased (report)
bmwer (4/19): My 2008 X3 has run flats and I had to replace the rears at 16,000 miles for $1000. Now, two months later the fronts need replacing for another $1000. Man, if I knew this when I bought the car NEW from BMW I would never have got the model with these terrible tires! And, it's not just Bridgestone, I have the premium Pirelli tires! (report)

drgonzal (6/18): Its called they are High Performance tires. they have softer rubber, so they don't last as long as conventional tires as say on a Camry or Accord. My last car was an 04 STi, and at 9k miles, I had to replace my tires. Then again at 24k, then one last time at 36k before I got rid of the car. I now own an 08 335xi, and bought it knowing full well that the high performance RFTs are not going to last long, especially in the winter here in North Dakota. It doesn't matter that its a $45k car, more expensive exotics deal with the same problem. The more expensive the car, the better car you get, yet the more expensive it is to maintain!!! (report)
