As a guitarist, I found this news story pretty interesting basically, for an unspecified (but no doubt, unrealistic) price you will soon be able to buy the self-tuning Gibson Robot Guitar. The robot guitar can be set to different tunings and will detect, by means of a computer attached to the bridge, whether or not the strings are in tune. The guitar will then turn the machineheads to ensure it stays tuned, or to change it into a new tuning if you so desire. Pretty useful for a gigging guitarist then imagine not having to keep tuning your guitar in between songs! In fact, imagine not having to worry about tuning into Eb just to play Sweet Child Of Mine... But the Gibson Robot Guitar has come across some criticism. A lot of people worry that nobody will be able to tune their own guitars anymore, or that the ear training you receive when tuning your guitar normally will be lost. While I can agree with them to a point, I don't think it's that much of a problem. How different is it really to just using an electric tuner? This is really just the next step from that. And let's be honest, it is the GIBSON Robot guitar... it's hardly going to be an affordable beginners guitar, is it? I don't think people really have to worry that much about Gibson's Robot taking over the world... and even if it does, it's not going to be the end of it. Remember that people were afraid of the electric guitar at first the Gibson robot guitar could just be the next step in the future of music.
