Richard Roberts, son of famed televangelist and seer-of-the-900-foot-Jesus Oral Roberts, resigned as President of Oral Roberts University Friday. He's facing quite the list of mismanagement charges, which basically all amount to having treated Oral Roberts University as his private fiefdom and piggy bank. This isn't small stuff, either: the charges include charging a $39,000 private shopping spree to the school and using the Oral Roberts University private jet for his daughter's senior trip to the Bahamas. The allegations aren't new -- whispers of fiscal mismanagement have been around the school for a long time -- but things were brought to a head when some former Oral Roberts University faculty brought charges of wrongful termination, claiming they were essentially fired for pointing out that what Roberts was doing was illegal. Roberts, for his part, denies any wrongdoing (don't they always). Ultimately, though, whatever the outcome, the Oral Roberts University case highlights what many see as the hypocrisy of many prominent Evangelicals, who seem to be more interested in "doing well" than doing good.
