I think we owe a little more respect to our Native Brothers and Sisters here in America. Especially in Virginia, where eight tribes including the Upper Mataponi (the descendants of Pocahontas) are not recognized. There is a long explanation of why this happened....a long story of racism and ignorance. Its 2005 now, folks. Lets set the record straight. We have oppressed, killed and downsized these people since the beginning of the arrival of Europeans. And now, our politicians are worried about casinos...even though its ok for a whole section of Nevada ot be devoted to sex, drugs and gambling. Well, of course...it makes the government money. Besides that, if the government was so educated on this topic, they would know that all of the Virginia tribes applying for recognition are devout Christians who oppose gambling. Come on people...this is getting rediculous. After everything thats been done to them, don't we owe them just a little in return?

Thats insulting...to all Native Americans, myself included. My tribe is recognized, thankfully. What happens when your not recognized? You have to pay taxes even though you can't vote? Do you even exist? A certain motto comes to mind here, "No taxation without representation". Now look, the same institution that said that is being hypocritical and doing the same thing...Nice.
