Maybe if you were a little "nicer" to the club manager (if you know what I mean) he'd tear up the contract.

I am in the same boat. I told them since I work out of state 310 miles from home that I wanted to pay month to month cash. Because I was a contract employee near a Ballys where work could end at any time I wanted to pay month to month. The slick gal at the counter told me I need to fill out the paper work before they are able to get me a membership card. Well low and behold I guess I just signed up for a 2 year commitment. Job is no longer in that state. I am past the 25 mile radius of a Ballys in my area. But they NOW require a Human Rescources letterhead telling me that my job is relocated. I checked the bylaws. Where did it say this? Total RIP-OFF. That included the first month sign-up of $75 an advance month I paid in cash of $80 and now a cancellation fee of $50 they are now trying to discredit my proper cancellation of their step by step to cancel. Pure BullyS Hit

I have been in colection for 7 years on my contract. I refuse to pay. I moved to a town more than 50 miles from a Bally's and they said that because there was a gym which would accept their membership (a gym that costs 10 dolars a month and is one room of poorly maintained equiptment) that I had to continue to pay Bally's membership fee to use the sub-standard gym. I think an account in collection can only be reported for seven years. I may be wrong. We'll see.

Read the terms and conditions?....what's the point when they won't honor it. I joined and then moved out of the country 6 months later. (so much more than 50 miles away). I told them I was moving...i supplied them with my new o/s address, my one way plane ticket and my new bills. I was told that I was still not providing enough evidence. It took hours of phone calls and waking up at all hours to catch different 'management' in a different time zone. IT WAS INFURIATING...and THEN they still went ahead and kept on charging me for MONTHS even after all of this. BALLYS SUCKS. Never give them your credit card number EVER!

I totally agree that Bally's is horrible to work with. I also was told I could cancel, but the fine print said I missed my timeframe. They are not an upstanding organizaion to work with. I would be ashamed to be their employee.

today the worst thing happened to me in ballys medford, ma. A rep by name andrei marina approached me in the locker room and asked me if i needed a massage. I told him I was not gay, but he tried to sexually molest me. I complained to the manager and he said gay men must be given equal rights.what kind of a place is this?

It seems almost impossible to cancel an account with those very unethical and moronic people at Bally total fitness. If you feel the same way or have been a victim of their unethical, unlawful practices read on.
I can't afford bally's anymore and when it come to puting food on the table or going to the gym, the answer should be obvious; however, this obvious answer doesn't seem to be enough for Bally's moronic employees.
Secondly, if you are angry about how bally's treated you, here is how you can cause monetary damage to them:
1. Go to google or yahoo or ask.com and search for "Bally's total fitnes"
2. On ask.com under sponsored results find an link (at the very top of the page) to bally's website and click on it, than click on one link within the website. repeat as many times as you can.
3. Search for "bally's total fitness" on google and click on the very top link in the search results (should have pink background or different color than the rest of the results) and than on one link withing bally's website. Do it as many times as you can.
4. On yahoo search for "bally's total fitness" and click on the very top link in the search results (should have blue background) after you are taken to bally's website click on one link within the website. Repeat as many times as you can, many times a day.
You did it, bally total fitness pays per click on aforementioned search engines and you didn't get your money back or compensation for unfair practices; however, you did get and are getting some justice by causing tham monetary damage.

I agree; they're a scam! A few years ago I was in my early 20s and went in and talked to the consultant in Glendale, CA and told him, "I'm looking for a month-to-month deal..." and he bullshitted me and said "yeah, this is it..." and gave me the form to fill out and sign. I went for a few months and after I stopped, I realized that I was locked into a contract. The Armenian consultant lied to me and I believed him, after all, how could he lie to me if he's looking at me straight in the eyes and looks honest (mother@#$!%). I should have read the back of the long form, but it had tons of tiny print. I agree with the above dude, "my cell-phone contract isn't that brutal..." BALLYs TOTAL FITNESS IS A SCAM. Check into 24hr Fitness (No Contract there) and they have other options like; month to month or prepay.

Always read the contract.. On the other hand I agree, they HAVE NOT BUSINESS ETHICS. The trainers lie to you to get you into buying a membership. I was happy with mine because I read the contract before hand BUT, the TRAINER did tell me that I could CANCEL at any time... What a liar. I already knew the contract. I have been a bally guy for 3 years now and happy... I agree the lie lie lie..

This is sentiment echoed by many Bally customers (victims) including myself. Being the overly trusting person that I am, I believed the club manager when he told me that I could cancel for three reasons, the third being for an "early termination fee".
I assumed this fee was similar to a termination fee for services such as satellite TV, in the neighborhood of $250; expensive, but worth it if you need to get out of monthly billing.
Much to my dismay, he had lied to me, and I learned that I should have read the contract in its entirety right there in front of his face. Too bad it's too late now; I can't get out of the contract without paying the "early termination fee" which is actually not an early termination fee at all, it's the sum of every unpaid month for the duration of the contract.
Why is it that I can terminate my television or cell phone contract early, but if I want to cancel another non-essential, I have to pay $1500! It's simply ridiculous, and the company really should be publicly lashed for it.

I hate Bally's. I joined their gym when I was 20 years old. Soon after, I joined the military and since I didn't know where I would end up being stationed, I went to the gym to cancel. The representative was such an a-hole. I couldn't believe the lack of professionalism. He gave me a hard time and finally agreed to cancel my membership. Five years later, I went to buy my first place and my mortgage officer informed me that Bally's had given me bad credit. I ended up settling for $300. I just moved and Bally's is my closest gym; regardless, I still go to a gym that is further away and I will NEVER join Bally's again. A-HOLES.

Ballys will close down over 100 clubs in June of 2009 and possibly shut down like Circuit City. I have some friends working at Bally in Orlando which is not far from my house. Ballys bankruptcy didnt get approved by the bankruptcy judge in May of 2009. They are lying to their employees, not paying commissions out and have kept cutting because the company has only $54 million in the bank. The debtor of Bally dont even want thier money.
spread the word, BALLY WILL SHUT DOWN. Dont join. They suck

I only did a two month membership to try it out. I actually ended up paying for like 5 months and then after 3 months went in to personally cancel at the front desk.. The desk attendant stated she sent the paperwork into corporate office and that it would cancel my membership since I obligated my contract. I had paid for first and last month as well... The next month they used the last month from initially what I had paid...However, in the following month I they took out money again... I personally went into the Bally's and they gave me some bullshit number where no one answers. I went back into Bally's where the desk attendent told me that when I call press the button that add a member and you can get someone to talk to...I can't believe this is what the desk guy told me...The membership department refused to let me talk to a manager and said they would contact me within a week... Insane I tell you, BALLY'S FITNESS only want your money and could care less if they are cheating you!!!!

I agree BALLY'S SUCK... I signed on for their National Membership. How can you offer a national membership when you don't have at least 1 facility in every area. The facility I attended in the Bronx, NY... Members rarely used towels which meant, they left sweat everywhere. What made this worse was, they often ran out of paper towels, i.e, this was a sweat, germ infested nightmare. Why should I have to constantly ask management to correct this. 3rd, Bally's allows you to access your account online to upgrade your membership but doesn't allow you to cancel. You have to write a letter. Why is this you ask? Because they assume most people wouldn't have time to write them, further allowing Bally's to debit your account. Join Bally's if you like, in my opinion... BALLY'S SUCK
