Ok here it is.
First we redeploy most of our troops to Afghanistan and do what we should have done in the first place: really get rid of the Taliban, find Osama and help build an economy there that does not depend on opium.
Second, redeploy the remaining troops to the Kurdish area in the north. Help the Kurds create a viable independent state and when they do, call it Iraq. Ha! We win! And in the process we get to piss off Iran, Syria and Turkey. Well, so what? Pissing off Syria and Iran are central elements of our current foreign policy objectives.
Third, leave all our shit behind in the southern part of what used to be called Iraq when we redeploy – bases, airports, hospitals, generators, earth movers – everything except our weapons of mass destruction and things that shoot down flying things. Let the Iraqis have them. Maybe someone there will be able to take a warm shower in clean water like before the war.
Finally, let the Sunnis and Shiites continue to do what ever they want to do to each other in the southern area that will NOT be named Iraq, maybe Baghdadistan. We can't stop their civil war anyway. If we have a single friend there, he or she could become a spy for us after we leave. Reinstate the flyovers like before the war and bomb the shit out of anything that looks objectionable. Apparently this worked because…no WMDs. If it gets out of control, let the Saudis step up to the plate. Hey, it is their part of the world. We would have more of a chance of success fighting a defensive war against Iran from the new Iraq (the Kurdish area) than from where we are now where our “allies” can not be trusted. If the Israelis want to get involved, have at it. If the Saudis accept the Persians on their border, it’s their part of the world; they will better informed choices than we (of course, that is not a very high standard.)
Oops…I forgot about oil that is mostly in the south. Wait a minute, the administration told me that this war was not about oil. Am I
