Put it to a vote! America stay, or America go!

I read this in a newsletter: "I can tell you the main reason behind all our woes -- it
is America." The New York Times reporter is quoting the
complaint of a clothing merchant in a Sunni stronghold in
Iraq. "Everything that is going on between Sunnis and
Shiites, the troublemaker in the middle is America."
Our mission has failed because Iraqi animosities have proved
uncontainable by an invading army of 130,000 Americans. The
great human reserves that call for civil life haven't proved
strong enough. No doubt they are latently there, but they
have not been able to contend against the ice men who move
about in the shadows with bombs and grenades and pistols.
The Iraqis we hear about are first indignant, and then
infuriated, that Americans aren't on the scene to protect
them and to punish the aggressors. And so they join the
clothing merchant who says that everything is the fault of
the Americans.
I for one believe we cannot leave them to destroy each other, but staying seems to be doing the complete opposite.
Why not let them vote on it? Simple ballot, America stay, or America go.
Then if they indeed want us to leave, it saves face for Bush, lets them get what they want, and American lives will not be lost. We can pull back to Sudi and Kiwait and see what happens.

This is an interesting idea. What happens if they vote to have us stay and we decide our mission is complete in 6 months and leave. Alternatively, what if a new dictator arises and campaigns against the americans and the vote very simply says to go home. Do we really leave that easily?

Yes, if it is a democratic vote, why not? I have a hard time belieiving any person in charge in Iraq will stay in charge for long anyway. It has been that way since our time on earth began, and will continue that way until they all kill each other. We need to be able to leave with dignity, but we definetly need to leave.

As long as we make progress and it is clear what we are their to achieve, then we should stay.

If we pull out now we wont continue to anger the entire world. And who wants a world where people dont clap for 9/11?
