According to the 12/10/07 BusinessWeek, private investment is helping Africa improve the quality of life. Private investment in African opportunities outside of the limited stock market leads entrepreneurs to build their own ventures, like biodiesel plants, and that means building the infrastructure to support it, like wells and roads. "I'd be the last person in the history books to go down as a philanthropist," says [investor] Renier van Rooyen, ESV's South African on-site manager. "But you cannot run a business when your workers are out with malaria or sick from dirty water." Sure, their are risks and down sides, but private investment in Africa may be propelling the continent forward health-wise at the same time it's growing economically.
