Preaching to Me    Back to the homepage
First off, I'm going to get this out into the open. I am an atheist. I do not care to be religious. Discussions about religion bore me; I don't get into debates like a lot of atheists and agnostics I know do. I don't care and it is not interesting to me in the least. Because of this, I do not want to hear your views on your religion and I do not want you to pray for me to find God (any god for that matter). I do not make my views well known, but what bothers me the most is how most people assume that because I'm American, I must be Christian. Yes, Christianity is the majority in America, but don't we also have freedom of religion, be it non-religious or a babbling non-coherent tongue speaking Christian? Just be careful people. And don't assume okay?

jerry_sizzzler (7/27): Good point. Religion is a personal choice, and the freedom of religion is one of the things that makes this country great. Unfortunately there are some people in this country -- especially now -- who think that their religious beliefs are "right" and it's what everyone should believe. (report)
PhotoPlay (8/9): Hey, right on there Binkster, why care about eternity if it's boring? Give me "E"ntertainment television anyday. (report)
Anonymous (9/27): Great! God believers, do your thing, but do not include everyone as being like you! Like 'Binkyboodle' I am free from the strangling hold of absurd superstition! (report)
Anonymous (6/6): I agree, although I happen to be very spiritually oriented. But I do not adhere to any of the popular mythologies, especially the one about the Hebrew guy who's actual name was Yeshua, not "Jesus". On a related topic: It is very interesting that the bloodiest and most vicious leaders of our time, like George Bush and Osama Bin Laden, believe that it is God directing them to slaughter other people. The arrogance of religious people is absolutely incredible! (report)

Anonymous (3/16): Agree with some and not with others. It IS a personal choice. In the end, a person of conscience MUST go with what his heart believes to be right, regardless of the pressure from preachers or church dogma. I don't think any one church has all the answers. I happen to believe in God tho not just because he talked to me once. (JUST once in all my 48 years--boy was THAT a shock,..anyhooo..) I'll make ya a deal. I won't assume you're a christian if you won't assume that all christians think you need to be saved. Personally, I think it's a bunch of malarkey. Life is a journey..2 steps forward, 1 step back. Ya just hope you came out better than when you started and I don't think that's a terrible goal for anyone to have, no matter what your beliefs. And I won't sneer at your atheism if you won't sneer at my "absurd superstition". And I won't assume that you're evil if you won't assume that just because someone SAYS they did something "in the name of God" it was His idea or that he even approves. k? Peace out. (report)
