The Phish Las Vegas CD/DVD Stinks Like A Rotten, Umm, Fish    Back to the homepage
Views: 1720 Report
Unless you're one of the faithful who camp out at Phish concerts like latter-day Deadheads, don't bother with the new Phish Las Vegas CD/DVD set. With a DVD of the outrageously staged show they put on in Las Vegas way back in 1996 and three music CDs, it's just inevitable that there'll be lots more crap than diamonds in this collection. Sure, you'll find some lots of lovely stuff that was performed at the Phish Las Vegas concert, including great jams and strong versions of band classics. But you'll find those on other CDs, too. So why shell out $45 for the whole shebang? Maybe just because the very idea of a Phish Las Vegas concert is outrageous to begin with, their stoned-out songs confined within the glitz and glamour of a showroom, complete with a whole flock of Elvis impersonators. Okay, viewing faux Elvises cavorting around Jon Fishman may be enough for some to push the credit card closer to the limit. But, in fact, you can get the 26 tracks of music alone for just $23. Maybe that's the better way for all but the most devoted, or wasted, to enjoy the whole Phish Las Vegas spectacle.

Anonymous (12/12): phishtory, pure and simple! encore (a.k.a. mini 3rd set) alone is worth the price of the cd/dvd combo (report)
