People need to get a clue and have a little more respect for the arts. I am so tired of going to the theater to see a great musical or play and seeing so many people dressed like they are going to a Giants game or movie. Jeans at the theater? Polo shirts? Please, have a little more respect for the people on stage. And then there are the people that arrive late and shuffle to their seats while people are performing on stage. And worse, the people that get up during the performance, or dont turn off their cel phones. Such a sad state-of-affairs.

Lighten up-- the world is becoming less formal. As long as I mind my manners, what the hell difference does it make what I wear to a theater? These days people dress down for church, the office, and other venues where society has finally realized that they don't need to wear hot nylons or choke on their ties to be acceptable. Why should a theater be any different-- especially being a form of entertainment??

I agree, but your may be asking too much. Most people cant even grasp the concept of being polite in a movie. Talking on cell phones ina movie? Talking to the movie screen? Generally treating the theater like thier own personal living room that they were nice enough to invite you over. I find myself waiting for the DVD more often and watching it on the hometheatere. Who knows...mabye someday you can order theater too...ding dong...who is it? Les Miserable. :)

Even worse: The parents who let their kids behave this way, and don't make any effort to teach them respect. As you said, very sad.
