New "Smart Shuffle" feature in iTunes 5    Back to the homepage
Views: 2478 Report
I just dowloaded iTunes 5 and was reading about the new smart shuffle feature. Through the preferences page "Playback" tab you can choose how you want for music to be shuffled. I set mine on "very likely" meaning that it will likely play songs from the same artists and genre. After an hour on listening to shuffle mode I'd have to say this is a huge improvement and makes shuffle mode a much more fluid exprience. This feature alone makes downloading this new version worth while. The new iPod nano looks pretty cool as well. Damn Apple is good.

Anonymous (4/26): Yeah, Apple has a way of figuring out how to make things work "automagically". At first I was confused by the slider (instead of a checkbox) but i figure its a percentage chance thing. So it's not playing 2-fer-Tuesday type rock blocks, but it's more of a grouping of songs, even from the same album. Sweet. (report)

Anonymous (3/1): It figures the Smart Shuffle would work well for someone who actually *wants* songs from their albums played consecutively. I've got a playlist with songs by two different bands, four albums in total, Smart Shuffle set to "less likely," and about 5/6 of the way down the list, seven songs are blocked together from one of those albums... that's about half the album! I love Apple, I love iTunes, but they can be frustrating sometimes. (report)
