why should only the poor, and national guard be called to defend our country? If we belong in Iraq-the rich and children of the powerful should be signing up! If you believe in our cause-sign up!

antichick (7/10): If you agree with this argument then middle-class women and the daughters' of the middle-class should also be signing up. What exactly is it you do for a living smartypants? (report)
Anonymous (7/11): Go burn your bra somewhere! (report)
Anonymous (7/11): Why don't you sign up, smartypants? Maybe you don't appreciate the freedom this country gives you. How would you feel living in Saddam's Iraq where women had no rights and weren't allowed to go to school? (report)
aoddo (7/21): Hello? What part of "voluntary military service" don't you understand. I'm sure the women of Saddam's Iraq knew what involuntary clitorectomy's were!!! (report)
USAR1965 (7/24): To Anonymous(7/11) and aoddo: I hold no brief for Saddam, but facts are still important. Iraq was not a theocracy under Saddam -- it was a secular, socialist government run by a dictator -- and women had as much right as men to vote (although I agree that under a dictatorship, voting was meaningless); furthermore, women were represented in the Iraqi congress at a much, much greater rate than in the USA. Involuntary clitorectomies were not practiced in Iraq, either, although there is plenty of evidence that torture, murder and rape were officially sanctioned for political reasons. (report)
DiabloDan (7/25): wait wait wait....who said only poor people are in the military? there are some people that joined the military cuz they actually want to fight, now just cuz they need money (report)
Merlin (7/28): I served honorably from 1982-90 and I came from an upper middleclass family. My brother is currently serving. Anyone who signs up and raises their right hand knows that they may be called upon to give their life for their country. The benefits to what you refer to as "only the poor..." are significant in the extreme. Why you mention the National Guard is a mystery. I think the "stop loss" needs to be looked at again and new policies on terms to serve written when someone enlists. We've all known since Grenada and Panama that we can be sent anywhere, anytime, on a whim for any reason. The military is NOT a democracy. But it is civilian controlled. (report)
libssuck (2/1): McCain has 2 sons enlisted and Palin has 1 now. It's to bad our military(I will thank them for you!) couldn't choose who's freedom and liberty they protect because I think squirmy little libs would be at the end of the list. You should really fact check your mouth before your fingers speak! (report)
