What Can the NHL Do to Survive?    Back to the homepage
Views: 727 Report
Hello?? Is there anyone out there who cares about hockey? Anyone outside of Canada, that is. Or the Country Formerly Known as the Soviet Union? Okay, maybe the Northern Belt of the United States – east of the Mississippi. But for argument sakes, let’s say the ENTIRE Northern Belt of the United States. Is that really enough to sustain an entire league? A league that needs to thrive in places like Atlanta, Miami, Carolina, Phoenix, and Los Angeles to survive. The last thing people in those cities did on ice was pour mojitos. So what can the NHL do to survive? What kind of P.R. campaign can it wage to appeal to the existing die-hard fans (both of them), and attract some new, more mainstream fans into its arenas? How about play the sport on grass with a ball while wearing full body pads and call yourself Football! Okay, maybe that idea’s already taken. But you gotta admit: it’s working wonders. The NHL needs to brighten up its image. Or maybe it just needs to work on getting one.
