The EU signs a new treaty to replace its constitution. It's a simplified version of the European founding document, and carries the more modest name, "treaty", with no references to adopting common themes, from a flag to an anthem, meaning the EU moves forward. These themes were a problem for some countries, and without them, the EU moves forward as a stronger network, with less bureaucracy, easier decision-making, and no national veto for 50 areas of policy. The EU moves forward also with a new foreign policy chief who will manage thousands of diplomats and officials, and they will now have a 5-year President of the EU. It's great to see how more and more the EU moves forward and kinda shows us how backward we are. At a time when we have states suing each other over water and working against each other in so many ways, the Europeans are showing us how to create a stronger union by working together.
