Gay marriage should not be recongnized by the state...neither should straight marriage. If we truely have separation of church and state, then straight "marriages" shouldn't be recognized any more than gay "marriages." Isn't "Marriage," in most cases, a religious ceremony and therefore shouldn't it be irrelevant in the eyes of the state...gay or straight? In both cases the only thing that should be recognized by the state is a civil union or contract. Why have I not heard this line of reasoning from anyone else?

Many friends of mine believe that ALL 'marriages', straight or gay, will be extinct someday and the debate of 'recognition' will be a moot issue.
