Every year, the golf world reaches into its ridiculous bag of tricks to bring us the Skins Game, and every year the talent pool competing gets thinner and thinner. For those unfamiliar, the Skins Game features players amassing money not by winning a tournament (i.e., good old-fashioned golf), not even by winning a round, but by winning a hole. That’s right, the same way you and I play it when we take our mismatched clubs in our beaten-up golf bag and roll it down the fairway in our pushcart with one wheel missing. The Skins Game is to golf what beer pong is to table tennis. I half expect a keg to show up on the 11th tee box.
What’s next? A miniature golf tournament featuring some of the top name pros? Wait a second… Think about it. I mean, how many times have you been face to face with that clown’s mouth wondering how Tiger Woods would approach this? It certainly has an accessibility to the masses that the golf tour lacks. Seeing players at the top of their game faced with the same shots that Uncle Chester faced last Thanksgiving weekend. That’s priceless!
