While trying to return my son from our home on the West Coast to college at Dartmouth in September, a trip that was stressful just because of the airlines was much more so because of Logan Airport and the stupid Big Dig. Closing tunnels from the airport had to have been the stupidest decision made since some fool sold the city of Boston this pork barrel project. Traffic was snarled for hours and we did not get up to Hanover until 4:14 am! The trip took 25 hours from start to finish. Guess what, Boston? We are NOT ever coming through there again!! There is Montreal Airport as well as Manchester, New Hampshire Airport. The Big Dig is NEVER going to be finished, Boston!! Wake up!! People are getting rich from this travesty of a civic project while you lose money and tourists!!!!!!

BiggerDig
(5/25):
Every single person I have talked to said years ago, that Boston has never controlled fraud and waste and poor construction, nor will it do so with the Big Dig. IT will go on and on. We all discussed the probability of leaks, and delays and cost over runs, and a number of persons even said that it would cost around 20 billion by the time it was actually completed at the end of the first decade of the new century. We were, unfortunately, correct. Why did the comman person know all this would happen while the city said it would be on budget and on time and "on quality"?
People with their experience in life know more than the wishes and promises of many leaders. We all know that accountability issues muat be addressed and new systems of management developed with proper incentives and oversight before people anywhere again ever trust a government and its contractors. We admire what has been done, but we are disgusted with what has not been done or not done well. Good luck Boston! By the time the Big Dig is allegedly well and truly finished, Boston will most assuredly be planning the Big Dig's Replacement. Of this we are absolutely certain. In less than fifteen years, it will be 2020. Thirty-five years will have passed from the Big Dig's inception. In that year,if civilization is still around, someone will make an announcement that a new plan is to be unveiled for a new project. And, unless it has been well analyzed and control and management has been scrutinized from the bottom up and then from the top down, and unless there IS an Inspector General Team of some kind that will actually function, the new Bigger DIG Project will fail in all its promises dismally. You have 15 years to prepare for new project in our opinion. Will Boston be ready? Or will the city flounder in a sea of organizational disarray? History tends to repeat. It does not have to always repeat, but experience shows that it often does. Live long and prosper Boston. We all need you.
