It used to be that Hurricanes were named only after women. Its said that sailors thought the hurricanes were like a woman's fury. But these days (since women's lib...maybe 70's or 80's) the names are alternated between men's and women's names. It just so happens that the two big storms this year were women's names. But don't forget Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Charley.

This yoohoo2 is ignorant to the news. About 50 years ago all hurricanes were female named probably as a tribute to their girlfriends by naval personnel who were on ships in area, much like WW2 aircraft. For the last TWENTY FIVE years they have been alternately named male then female. ever hear of Hurricane Andrew?? How about Hurricane David? or what about Hugo? they were in all the paper's. Stop being so sensitive it is not all about you. Why don't you sue the US Government about it

Dear me yoohoo.. Why ask about womens names.. You are all hurricanes. You cause more havoc than any hurricane can. You are all hurricanes, and I love you all. Look at it another way. Nature is beautiful, so everytime there is one about, remember you are beautiful. George..... Never seen a hurricane, I live in the U.K

Not true. The names of hurricanes alternate between men and women. The names are set in advance. If there are additional storms after Rita, their names will be Stan, then Tammy, then Vince, then Wilma. After that, they go into the Greek alphabet. Amazing what one can learn with a two-second Google search.
