Oh God, Avenged Sevenfold Are At It Again

I've tried to like Avenged Sevenfold. I don't like to dismiss a band because people say they're not “real” metal, or because people say they're emo. But even having given them a chance, I just can't stand a single thing about them. I don't like their music, I don't like their image, I don't like the way they try and paint themselves as the next Iron Maiden - and I don't like the way they contradict that last one by pretending that their music is something new and original. So I wasn't particularly surprised to see that they've copied another famous band with their new album. This is their third album (depending on whether or not you count the EP “Sounding The Seventh Trumpet”), and it's called “Avenged Sevenfold”, by Avenged Sevenfold. Self-titled third album, sound familiar anyone? It even has a similarly minimalist cover compared to the band's other albums (although not quite as plain as the Black Album!). How subtle. Avenged Sevenfold are good players, they just need to fire their marketing advisors, sit down, and write some music that does them justice. Until then, if I want to listen to Iron Maiden, I'll listen to Iron Maiden. They're less whiny anyway.
