I had a garage sale this weekend that was really successful, but I had to deal with alot of crazy people. Like the man who wanted an oil painting that I had priced at $30.00...it should have been much more but I wanted to move it fast. Well, this older, heavy-accented, Russian man told me how great it was etc. and then for the next 5 minutes told me he'd pay me $15. He bugged me so much about trying to bargain it down, that I would have thrown it away before I would let him have it. I finally picked it up and said, "I'm keeping it!" Isn't it funny about human nature...if he had been nice and said, "I really want it, but I can't afford it," I probably would have given it to him for free!

lot of people who garage sale like to bargain.that is part of the enjoyment.IF YOUR SO MONEY HUNGRY then take ur garbage to an auction house.

Garage sale patrons are all about the deal. To get the best price you haggle. You didn't mention if anyone else had offered to buy the painting. It could be that a lot of its perceived value is based on your sentimentality. If you didn't really want to sell the picture you shouldn't have placed it in the sale. Put it on e-bay with a reserve price.

I agree. It is their attitude that sometimes dictates the price that I would put on an item or how far down I will go in negotiating. You did the right thing.

not the first time I've heard this about penny pinching Russians. How annoying. One person I talked to said people at his garage sale were switching stickers to get stuff cheaper.

quit attributing this to some ethnicity. people are people you freaks. i'm sure you're all just as penny pinching and greedy in similar circumstances
