Dogs aren't bad by nature.    Back to the homepage
Views: 2852 Report
In light of the new proposed ban on pit bulls in Aurora, I just want to remind everyone that PEOPLE make dogs bad. Don't let a bunch of irresponsible pet owners cost any more sweet and otherwise perfectly safe dogs their lives!!! I once knew a black lab who was a neighborhood menace because his owner let him run around off leash and he took the whole street as his territory. He aggressively attacked my dog (who was on a leash) and there was nobody around to come and control him. I am not going to launch a campaign now to have all Labradors banned from the area. The pit bull ban is nothing more than dog racism. If a pit bull attacks and kills someone, hold the owner responsible. Not the whole breed.

markw (8/24): As long as Pitbulls are purchased by macho-types with inferiority complexes, then raised at best with NO discipline, or at worst with the intention of the desired end result of a BAD dog (hanging a 5-pound chain around a puppy's neck), they should be BANNED. These dogs were bred to fight and kill, they possess mental and physical traits far different from other breeds, and are usually far more hazardous to strangers than any other breed. I am a freedom lover and I normally hate restrictive laws, but I think it's a GOOD THING to ban them, as very very few Pitbull owners show anywhere near the dedicated responsibility required to supposedly raise them to be anything but the wild killers their genes dictate. Yes, owners of other breeds are guilty of improper pet behaviour, but most dogs are bred to serve man, not fight and kill. Even a "pussycat" Pitbull is potentially vicious attacker, often without warning, even when it has been raised properly. What kind of person needs a Pitbull, anyway? No redeeming social value, except for the MTV crowd! (report)
ThomasPaine (9/17): Pitbulls are bred to be aggressive and are aggressive by nature and breeding. I say bully to banning the beasts. (report)
toomuchmotor (9/23): Maybe you could put some baby pirahnas in your swimming pool and raise them up with love, trust and understanding. When they are fully grown, it will be great fun to frolic in the pool with them. Pit Bulls were intentionally and successfully bred to be incredibly vicious. And yet this is an animal you want to bring into your home and expose your children and neighbors to? Time for a reality check Bozo. (report)
toomuchmotor (9/23): One other thing Marky, After every mauling or killing, the owners are heard to say,"But he was such a sweet puppy". Hopefully as they are being led away to prison while the animal control people kill the killer dog. What is it with you? aren't there enough other gentle breeds out there for you to choose from? Or is it because they are just so darn cute? They are about as attractive as an inflamed hemorroid! Consider getting some intensive psychiatric help, You Bozo. (report)
noadvertising (9/28): Face it, pit bulls have an earned reputation. No number of "my sweet little pit" stories can change that rep because there are too many cases of "pits gone mad" otherwise. (report)
Anonymous (4/23): i totaly agree i love dogs and bad dogs are not born they're made (report)
cheerbabe_120z (10/24): i agree becuase i myself have two pitbulls one is a blue pitbull pure breed and another we found a-stray and they have been the best dogs ever. This is the only type of dog that i will ever have and nothing can change that its not our fault there is stupid people out there who are using dogs to make a profit. They need a life and quit destroying innocent pitbulls lives. (report)
southg (11/8): It is so sad that people like you are taking up for these ugly vicious dogs. I was on yahoo answers earlier about pit bull banning telling them how I agree they should put a ban on them. My daughter was mauled by one. I couldn't belive the answers I got from people coming up with excuses like " You ahould have been watching your child. Or you shouldn't have let the dog in your yard. HA! Me and my daughter had just walked outside from our home to garden with the neighbors dog came out of nowhere and grabbed my daughter by the face!!!!! I was right beside her. It took all I could to pull that fucker off her. And got bit as well! The health department called some people to come out there to get the dog because they were thinking he must have rabies to just come and attack like that. But he didn't have rabies, he was just a dog that finally snapped or went crazy, just like most big dogs could do. And what is sad is I will never trust another dog as long as I live for what that dog did to my daughter. (report)
pitlover93 (5/11): i agree with this b/c my pit bull wouldnt hurt anyone but ppl are always scared to come to my house b/c of my dog. If pitbulls are going to get a bad rap it should be the owners who get one too not just the breed. Pit bulls would never intentioally hurt anyone besides to protect themselves or their owners. (report)

Grubmer (8/2): I couldn't agree with you more! There are examples of bad dog owners everywhere and in every town. Why don't we start licensing owners instead of dogs? What if you had to pass a pet ethics test to get a pet's license? It is ridiculous to target a specific breed instead of making owners of all breeds more responsible for their pets' behavior. (report)
LiberalMom (8/2): I live in rural CO where the pit bulls killed a lady. She had trained them to fight. Now she's in jail - where she belongs. Most pit bulls are love puppies. I'm proud to help Mariah's Promise and pit bull rescue place these dogs in safehouses til the Denver ban is lifted. (report)
Lordboogar (9/20): I grew up with am-staffs (not that most know the difference) and pitbulls. Wouldn't have another breed! These dogs are loyal, loving, and seem to have fewer problems with health and behavior issues than other breeds. However, I wouldn't want many of the people from Aurora to have them, or guns, or motorized transportation for that matter. (report)
me1 (9/28): well i don't like collies so can we ban them too? a collie bit me when i was seven. while we are at it why don't we ban everyone from themselves and build walls around our houses doing all business from the internet. (report)
bigred (9/28): dogs are animals just like human beings. all animals are unpredictable period. some humans kill people and other animals. then we kill or imprison them. the way i see it we are all screwed. and if the human animals bothered to research dog breeds they would see that statisticaly labs attack more than any other breed. look it up if you decide not to agree with me. besides there are to many people in this world, take one for the team (report)
Lordboogar (9/28): I would generally find myself more distrustful of collies... got bit in the face by one of those. Hmm... Pirahna's in a swimming pool? Sounds like a good way to keep the local teenagers from taking midnight swims. I had a pirahna that would come up to the surface of the fish tank to be petted... yeah, they can be nice too if you understand how they behave. (report)
Mel_and_Loki (12/8): To markw: Have you EVER researched the APBT? Do you know anything about them? Back when dog-fighting was legal, pit bulls were bred to be DOG aggressive. That means that any dog that showed any sign of human aggression was immediatly culled (killed) from the line. The "dogmen" didn't want a human aggressive dog in the "pit." Yes pit bulls can do more damage then a golden retriever for instance. A Golden will bite and snap numerous times. I pit will bite, hold and shake. Is one better then the other? No, equally bad. BUT with the proper care, love, socialization and training pit bulls are usually very laid back and mellow dogs. I say this as mine sleeps on the couch with 2 cats. Please people, do your research before you call my dog bad. (report)
Anonymous (1/26): I have a friend who lives in Denver and I refuse to ever visit him there until my dogs would be safe there. I think it's an absurdity to commit a dog holocaust like this. Sure, now it's just the unpopular pit bull, oh and a few Rotts and Dobies who aren't as popular anymore as they were. It will get worse in increments. They will ban Shiba Inus,Mastiffs, and the list will go on and on. Pretty soon you won't be able to own any dog. Sound far fetched? Take a look at Germany and Italy...right now they have dozens of breeds on the list with more added all the time. Do we really want to be like this? People act nowadays as if dog attacks were more likely to kill you than say cars, or bad eating habits. A little perspective here. (report)
Anonymous (1/26): I must say bigred...your post made my day. "Take one for the team" indeed. (report)
pitbulover (7/4): I totally agree. I'd like to know where Markw gets his information that "very few pit bull owners who anywhere near the dedication...blah blah blah." He is sadly mistaken. WE are almost attacked by dogs every day on our walks!! There are many dangerous untrained dogs out there and many irresponsible owners of ALL BREEDS who need to get control of their animals. Pit bulls are the target of a much bigger problem with many vicious dogs roaming the streets and not being contolled by their owners---POODLES included !!!! (report)
stoner (1/11): Absolutely! Theses owners should be held responsible! The should be put in jail to rot! They should be punished for mentally abusing these sweet animals! (report)
