The 2007 college football Heisman trophy race is wide open. And why shouldnt it be? The whole season has been wide open. Without a clear-cut front-runner it would seem perfectly acceptable to give the Heisman trophy to a player who is unable to complete the season on the field. That player is Dennis Dixon of the Oregon Ducks. As unlikely as it seems to award the Heisman trophy to an injured player, this may be the year to do it.
What Dennis Dixon was able to accomplish before being injured was and is enough to warrant the award. Dixon had amassed a remarkable quarterback rating of over 160 through 10 games while elevating his team to national prominence and a certain BCS bowl bid. If not for his injury, the team most likely would have romped through the remainder of its schedule and potentially been playing for a national championship. The fact is there arent very many players in all of college football that have had the impact on their team that Dennis Dixon has had with the Ducks. If anyone deserves to hoist the Heisman trophy at the Downtown Athletic Club injured or not its him.
