Can someone who watches this fill me in on all the hype? Seems a little depressing and the characters all all so unrealistic. Maybe I have just seen bad episodes but I'm not a fan

Yes, the show is unrealiistic but the key word is SHOW. It's made to entertain. If this is not your kind of show then find one that does suit you. My sister hates the show but I love it.
