You know what all those people are buying with those FREE Red Cross Debit Cards? Louis Vuittonand Gucci purses, Sony Play Stations, Jewelry, Etc. The only restriction on the card is alcohol. This is such a joke and shame on me for thinking some good could come out of this horrible tragedy. What happened to "The American Way" of hard work and perseverance? Something about entitlement for free handouts that rubs me.

So you know this for a fact? EVERY single person devastated by Hurricane Katrina is in fact buying Sony Play Stations and Gucci purses? And you know this because - you are actually in Houston or some other safe haven shelter passing out these "free handouts?" Come on, you must know these people lost EVERYTHING--identification, possessions, a change of clothing, LOVED ONES. Sure there are jerks who may be taking advantage of this generosity to get people back on there feet. But there are jerks everywhere--even those who spend their free time on this site being ignorant idiots and spouting gross overstatements as if they were fact. Seriously get a life and talk about something you really do know about -- like your own sense of entitlement to be right about things you clearly know nothing about.

That feeling of "entitlement" frosts me. Such abuses from goodwill destroys the giving concept.

JBcuz: I'm just telling you what I saw on the news and when I see men and women laughing, carrying on, and jumping up and down like they just pulled a fast one on the government, it's rubs me. You're right, not everyone is acting that way, in fact most are not, but it's not sending such a good signal to the rest of the country.
Look for my next posting where I'll be discussing my area of expertise, in the meantime, maybe you should read the papers and watch the news and you'll see what I see and change your view.

Actually, they are tracking the purchases made on these cards, so there IS proof. JBcuz - you seem a little angry. Scuba did not say that these people were not in need of help. The government tried to help everyone with what they needed MOST, by giving a gift card that could be used for a variety of necessities. Unfortunately, MANY people have abused this gift by shopping for frivolous items instead of true needs, as intended. The card is meant to be a hand up and it is a shame that some - not all - who were given this gift took advantage of it, to the disadvatage of those truly in need.

I agree that its disappointing when a couple indivuals take advantage of a situation, but at the end of the day, no one is breaking the law and $2,000 out of the government pocket for these homeless people is a drop in the bucket (less then .1%) when compared to the overall cost of rebuilding. Blame the program, not the people. Better said, don't blame anyone.
