Completing A Marathon    Back to the homepage
Views: 1882 Report
I think this is one of the most rewarding things a person can do for him/herself, and it truly does not matter how great an athlete you think you are or are not. I recently completeled a marathon, which I signed up for on a whim to see if I could do it. The discipline and schedule required to prepare was very therapeutic and reassuring. Running it was one of the best things I have done in my life, and it really was as doable as they say. I did not over train, did not quit drinking, did not change my diet - I just ran longer distances to prepare. It's a fantastic mental and physical accomplishment that I would recommend to anyone with the time and inclination. Oh, and do it with a friend if you can, that makes it so much more fun! And don't worry about your time, just worry about enjoying it and being strong.

cstraw (10/22): agree. I have a lot of friends who are currently/running or training for marathons right now. My brother is running the Nike Women's tomorrow (I guess they let guys join?). Sounds like fun. Running always takes the tension out of everything which is nice after a long hard day of work. (report)
Anonymous (10/24): I ran the Mardi Grad Marathon in New Orleans last year and loved it. I didn't stress over my time but was able to finish in just over 4 hours. It's so great and very peaceful. The fans really do make it more bearable, and I plan to run another one this year. (report)
MarinaXY (10/25): Did you run with Team In Training? Or follow a schedule on your own? (report)
