Are the Boston Celtics for Real?    Back to the homepage
Views: 719 Report
The story of the young basketball season is the Boston Celtics. They have vaulted themselves into instant contention with the offseason acquisitions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Teamed with Paul Pierce, they comprise one of the most dynamic tandems in the NBA. So what exactly is the surprise? Didn’t we all see this coming? Should we really be surprised? When the Miami Heat acquired Shaquille O’Neal four seasons ago, the smart money was instantly placed on them to become NBA champs. Yes, one man can do that for a basketball. One very big man. Who happens to play the most important position on the court. The same can be said for the Boston Celtics of 2007. Once they acquired Kevin Garnett from Minnesota, the road was paved. They become the darlings of the Eastern Conference, and become cover boys for just about every sports publication. And when the season started, their play matched the press. But the press suddenly reflected a shock, as if the Boston Celtics were coming out of nowhere. Well, they didn’t. And the very people who acted shocked by their success were the ones who predicted it. Strange indeed.
