Don’t get me wrong, I hate Barry Bonds as much as the next guy. Although my dislike for him is based more on him being an egotistical, self-centered jerk than it is on him being a cheater, I still rejoice in seeing him indicted by the federal government for lying to a grand jury. But that doesn’t mean Bonds will receive the just reward for being a cheater.
It’s not like Barry’s gonna do any time. Did any of you Bonds-haters really think that he would? There are a couple reasons for this, and of course the first is money. Barry’s got a lot of it. That means high-priced lawyers citing statutes that have been long-since forgotten. Also, the vilification of Bonds over the last few years would make the devil himself sympathetic to a jury. And finally, that jury would be left to decide what exactly the crime is. A man did bad things to his body? And then lied about it? Not sure that that carries the weight of the world on it. As much as a jury may want to put Barry Bonds away for that – assuming they’re haters like I am – it’s a difficult task.

I really don't care one way or the other about Bonds. I don't even think that he should do any time. He should however be disqualified when it comes to batting records. He should also be disqualified from ever achieving Hall of Fame status. Hank Aaron's records were set without the use of steroids and without today's sport technology. To allow Bonds to break this record is wrong! Now if they want to set it as a separate record under a steroid users category...
