BMW 335xi with 18" All Season Tires, Style 162: I figured it out.    Back to the homepage

I ordered a BMW 335xi with sport package. I soon realized that sport package came with the style 158 wheels which are hideous. I was alright with the style 159, but really wanted style 162's. The problem was is that BMW doesn't offer all season 18" tires for the style 162 wheels. Not sure why since it's an xi, but not the point for this post. After lots of research online i realized i could buy new tires from say tirerack.com that would be all season and fit my 18" wheels, but no one offers run flat all season 18" tires. The dilemma. So I pulled the trigger to today and upgraded my order from the style 158 to the style 162 wheels after talking to Fred at tirerack.com for a while. I'm going to get the yokomo 18" all season tires in the fall at a cost of $834 and replace the sumer performance tires the car comes with (or maybe store them for the next summer). I will also get a tire repair kit as a backup should i blow a flat. I really wish they offerred a run flat tire for the 18" 162's but its not out there. Anyways, i know lots of people are having the same dilemma, hopefully this helps. BTW - post below what you ended up doing so others will have an easier time making this decision.

updated: checkout BMW Tire Noise I decided to buy style 159 rims on eBay from another BMW owner ($810 for almost new tires and 159 rims) and stick with rft. Just didn't want to have to worry about flats.

Anonymous (9/9): I'm having the same dilemma... why the heck can't they just offer wheels and tires as separate options! (report)
snowbird (11/30): Tire rack offers a 18 inch winter tire that is good all year Dunlap DSSP runflat. They do not make it clear on the site that the runflats are offered You must Read the reviews on the tire and description. (report)
zomax (6/4): I just ordered a 335xi and have the same complaint. Why does the 328xi come with nicer wheels than the 335xi (with SP)? And the dealer will do nothing. So you have a 50K car that looks like crap because of ugly wheels...unless you spend another couple thousand at least to change it. I don't get it. Ugly alloy wheels inside unwanted RFT's - not happy. (report)
xfizerpillman (9/30): I am just about to buy the 2010 335xi and wondering if the runflat tires can be fixed if it is just a "nail type flat tire". The BMW dealer said they don't fix it. Does that mean I have to buy a new one? Would Gooyear fix it? (report)

Anonymous (9/12): this is the most frustrating thing. Its dissapointing that BMW would over all season tirs with the sport package 18 wheels. (report)
Bones (10/16): I was wrong. This totally sucks. I just bought a set of 159's on eBay for $810, almost brand new. So frustrating. (report)
monkster68 (11/27): My friend I had the same problem. However, your choice of tires should be the new Goodyear Eagle F1 all-season. Read the reviews, this is the best thing out there at this time. (report)
