MY TWO BEST FRIENDS BREAKING UP.    Back to the homepage
Views: 2134 Report
I have two friends whom I have known for about 17 years each. Lets call them Fred and Wilma. If you would, think of me as Barney. Anyway, Fred and Wilma mean a great deal to me. We have all been through some times over the years. I love both of them like my children. I mean in the sense that you don't love one anymore than the other. The situation is they have been together for the past 13/14 years. They haven't been on best terms with each other in a few years. Now ever since there situation has gone down hill I have maintained a neutral position. I know its a sad thing to not be able to be theyre for a friend when they are hurting but how do you advice someone when it could hurt the other. I don't want to be involved with their relationship problems. So a few months back Fred started seeing a new girl. I have met this person. Recently Wilma found out and has asked me if I knew about this girl. I wouldn't lie, so I told her I did. She is upset with me for not disclosing the info with her. If I had told her it wouldnt have helped the situation one bit and I would have betrayed Fred. Or did I betray her? I believe I choose the right decision. What do you think?

ronc99 (11/25): I agree with you Bamwitch. If you had told, he would be pissed. It is a no win situation. All you can do is hope that time heals, and you can still be friends down the road. I you had and have had nothing to do with what is happening to them, then they need to grow up and understand that. Maybe someday they will. Ihave been in a similar situation, hurts too. But in all my 53 years I have learned one thing, "You can,t change the inevitable". Just go with it and don,t take it personally. It,s THEIR problem, not yours. (report)
magc (7/6): I am in a very similar situation. I made the mistake of being there for "wilma" but never approached "fred" that i knew what was going on. I figured if he wanted to discuss this with me, he would. I have tried to remain neutral but now "fred" is upset with me for not letting him know I knew what was going on. I feel very much in the middle, regardless I lose in this situation. One will be upset with me. Worst part is, Fred and I work together. What should I do? (report)
camack (7/25): It's never nice to find yourself in a position like this. You should have tried to get Fred to do the honest thing and confess right at the start. That way you're the nice guy on both sides. Wilma thinks you rock for getting Fred to be honest, and Fred can't complain because HE'S the one in the wrong. (report)
